Omar Benitez Obituary
Dr. Benitez was born on Monday October 16th, in Weslaco, Texas. He graduated from PSJA High School in 1986 and four years later (1990) graduated from The University of Texas at Austin. He then applied and was accepted to the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas and graduated in 1994.
Following medical school Dr. Benitez moved to Gainesville Florida and completed a two year residency in General Surgery at the University Of Florida College Of Medicine followed by a Urology Residency in1999.
Having a wonderful, multi-talented, intelligent, loving and caring personality with an incredible charisma, Dr. Benitez touched the hearts of all who were lucky to have met him. He practiced Urology for 25 years in Fort Myers Florida. His practice was named Complete Care Urology. He enjoyed many hobbies including boating/fishing, snow-skiing, playing guitar and golf, but most importantly spending time with his two young boys, Mateo and Lucas and his wife, Nereida Benitez.
Dr. Benitez is preceded in death by his father, Jesus Rene Benitez Sr. (2005) and a baby daughter, Pilar Renee Benitez (2011).
Grateful for having shared his life with his mother, Elva Benitez of Pharr, Texas; his three brothers, Dr. J. Rene Benitez Jr. (Judy) of Amarillo, Texas, Oscar Benitez (Scott) of Austin, Texas and Rolando Benitez (Sandy) of Mission, Texas; one sister, Monica Benitez of San Antonio, Texas; one niece, Veronica Benitez; four nephews, Javier, Orlando, Joey and Paul Benitez; as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
The family received friends for a time of visitation Thursday March 14, 2019 from 6:00-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL.

Didn't learn of his passing until I went to the office today for an appointment. Was shocked and saddened by the news.
Not only did he put me at ease as a doctor, but he was always encouraging and hopeful for good outcomes.
I will always remember him for his smile, gentle manner, and his willingness to listen to my story.
He is already sorely missed!

Words will never be able to express the feeling of loss that I have to the man who saved my life. Three years ago, I was convinced that I was going to die, but this amazingly skilled doctor saved my life. He not only saved my life then, but continued to be a great friend to me and my family from the first day we were blessed to have met him. We became very good friends, and he treated me like a member of his family. He was so much more than just a doctor. He was a true friend. I will be forever thankful for all that he gave to me and my family. He gave me back my life. Our deepest sympathies go out to his entire family, especially his two adorable boys, Mateo and Lucas, whom I unfortunately never got to meet, but feel like I already knew. I just know he is now, and always will be, watching over and guiding them throughout their lives, until they are all reunited again in heaven. God bless you Omar. Rest well, and again, thank you for everything you have done for me, my family, and all of your patients who loved and continue to love you always.

I am so sad... high school wouldnt have been the same without Omar. we were friends, i loved him, he was a good man. my heart breaks for his brotherhood of friends & for his precious family.

I recently met Dr. Benítez as a patient and I can tell you that I liked him from that first meeting. He was a doctor I could talk to and he patiently answered all my questions. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. RIP doctor Benítez.

A couple of months later Omar gives us a call and started a special friendship that will the rest of my life. We last saw Omar a mere couple of weeks ago on a Colorado ski trip. My lasting memory of Omar is us skiing thru the trees hooting and hollering like little kids. Omar always had a way of making everyone at ease and putting laughter in the room.

My wife and I meet Omar and Neri 15 years ago while traveling to Puerto Rico on an outdoor adventure tour. We exchanged numbers like people often do never expecting to hear from that person again. Sure enough Omar gave us a ring a few months later and started a special friendship. We where with Omar a few short weeks before him tragic passing on a ski trip in Colorado. For as long as I live I my lasting memory of Omar will be us skiing thru the trees hooting and hollering like little kids. He always had a way of making everyone feel relaxed and open with his uninhibited charm. Our hearts are broken with his loss. The world feels just a bit more empty without him. I guess he was needed elsewhere to brighten all around him.

Dr Benitez was treating my husband since last year and what wonderful care and compassion he received every visit. He wasn't my Dr but we really connected from the beginning. My heart is so heavy with grief. I feel that I have lost a family member. My condolences and prayers go out to his wife, sons, his mother,and all family members. I will forever remember and be thankful for the day I first met Dr Benitez.

My husband had Dr Benitez as a urologist. He just finished surgery by Dr Benitez and he met with him last Thursday. He gave him the all clear. He was kind and very competent. I saw him and his boys at the King and Country concert. They were so excited to be there with their Dad. Our heart and prayers go out to your family. We are out of the country otherwise we'd be at the service. We are shocked and saddened by the loss of a great man.

Our hearts are aching for the loss of Dr Benitez. Both my wife and I were patients for many years. He was kind, caring and passionate about helping me with my chronic illness. Dr Benitez saved my life in 2012 and I will be eternally grateful. The world has lost a wonderful man and doctor. Prayers to his children and family.

I am glad that Dr. Benitez was recommended to me when I needed a urologist in Florida to help me meet my responsibilities of a Johns Hopkins treatment trial. I looked forward to my visits with him and our conversations, and will miss those.

So proud to have met Omar right out of med school as one of your VERY FIRST patients in late 99. We have been great friends every since! Doctor Benitez has been a huge part of our entire familys life through the years, doing so much for my father with his treatments and me with my kidney stones. Our ENTIRE family thought THE WORLD of him! He was truly THE WORLDS BEST doctor! His caring nature and compassion was like no other. He truly took the time with each patient and had a bedside manner like no other Ive ever experienced. We are so shocked and heartbroken with this tragedy. God is in control and even he would tell me God is the great physician, he just uses my hands. He came to know ECS school through our family and truly loved it there for his boys. His family was everything to him and we always shared stories of our kids/family when we spent time together. He will be missed by so many people he touched. It was truly an honor to know such a great friend who I was lucky enough to call my doctor. I will always think of him and keep his memory alive. May God watch over Mateo and Lucas in the days/years ahead as they move forward as he would want them to do GREAT THINGS. ❤ Our hearts go out to his entire family in this sad time.
