Omar Oudghiri Obituary
SOUTH BEND - Omar Oudghiri, 57, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2009. He was born April 25, 1951, in Morocco, to Mohamed (who preceded him in death in 1992) and Fatima (Atmane) Oudghiri. Survivors include his beloved wife of 34 years, Cynthia; daughter, Stephanie (Zachary) Lightner (Indianapolis), and son, Marc (South Bend). Survivors also include his mother, Fatima (Morocco); sisters, Dr. Fatiha (Dr. Abellah Amchou) Oudghiri, and children, Ghizlaine, Bouchra and Mohamed (Morocco), Latifa (Bassam Massi) Oudghiri, and children, Mariam, Louay and Aisha (South Bend); and brothers, Dr. Jamal Oudghiri and daughter, Dr. Saida Oudghiri (Morocco), Mostapha (Khidaja) Oudghiri, and daughter, Salima (South Bend), Abdelkrim Oudghiri (Morocco), and Fath-Allah Oudghiri, and children, Malik and Amira (South Bend). Omar and his family have resided in South Bend since 1979. He received his optical degree in Frankfurt/M., Germany; and had owned and operated Rogers Optical since 1988 in South Bend. Customer service and satisfaction were Omar's Number-One priority. Omar was a dynamic member of the South Bend Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris recipient. Omar's father was a life-long educator in Morocco and Omar, like his father, highly valued education. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Public Educational Foundation, Inc., 215 S. St. Joseph St., South Bend, IN 46601, would be greatly appreciated by the family. Private family visitation and services have been held. Burial services were held at Southlawn Cemetery. He was a positive role model for me from age 7 to my late twenties. Fitted me with my very first pair of eyeglasses, and encouraged and motivated me to go to college. He was my mentor that first year or two of college. Wonderful and great man who I loved and admired as though he were family. My sincerest condolences to his family who certainly know what an amazing man he was.

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to the Oudghiri family as you endure this untimely loss. Although I never had the privilege of meeting Omar personally, I have come to know of him and the Oudghiri family through my good friend and co-worker at Notre Dame, Fath-Allah Oudghiri.
Assuming that Omar was as charming, gracious and wise as his brother, the world will be a much sadder and emptier place with his passing. I have been greatly blessed in knowing your wonderful family, and I wish you courage and strength in dealing with Omar's passing.
