Ona Henry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 28, 2017.
Ona Mae (Alexander) Henry passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on May 27, 2017. She was born in Scroggins, Texas at her family home on July 19, 1921 to James and Myrtie Alexander.

Ona grew up on a farm which gave her a great sense of independence and also provided her with an unlimited supply of home remedies. She would walk to Clearwater School with her friend LT Henry and many other friends. After she graduated Ona wanted to do her part for her country. Between the years 1941-1944 she joined Rosie the Riveter building and repairing B-24's for the war. She had an article for her work in the Tyler Newspaper and Hideaway Magazine.

During one of LT Henry's leave from the Army, the two childhood friends were married in Greenville. They had 4 children and participated in church whenever the doors were open. Ona taught Sunday school at Calvary Baptist in Grand Prairie and was over the church nursery at Indian Hills Baptist Church for 30 years.

Ona was something to everyone, weather it was a mother, teacher, friend, on site doctor or gardener. When she put her mind to something she did it. Ona was the kind of woman who didn't believe in whining, helped everyone and was extremely patient. She spent a large amount of time working with disabled children.
Her passions included her Lord and savior, her family and gardening. She had the ultimate green thumb. She could grow anything and was in the Grand Prairie Newspaper for the disappearing Amaryllis that would bloom every year on her birthday. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

Ona is preceded in death by her parents James Barton Alexander and Myrtie Mae Carnes Alexander, husband L.T. Henry, brother FC Alexander, sister Jean Couch and great-grandson Mason Wight.

She is survived by her son Stanley A. Henry and his wife, Cindy of Scroggins, TX., daughters: Redonna Fiammi, Carolyn Baynham and her husband, Jeff of Hideaway, TX, Shirley Kallstrom and her husband, Bill of Grand Prairie, TX, 8 grandchildren: Debbie Evans, Dawn Hudgins, Tracy Wight, Christie Kiriazes, Scott Henry, Monty Henry, Jennifer Schmiesing, Jill Watson; 17 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Love you so much grandma. Almost all of my childhood memories involve you. What I would give to sleep at your house and wake up to your sausage biscuits one more time. I'm so glad Alden got to meet you and got loving from you! I know you are up there right now in heaven living it up with your family and friends. If Theres a garden up there I bet you've already started working in it! I'll miss you everyday and I can't wait to see you again! Please give papa joe a hug and kiss from me.

You were not only a wonderful Grandma.
But a true Blessing to anyone that was lucky enough to know you.
Everyone admired your tenacious attitude toward love for all of your family and friends.
You taught us right from wrong. And gave us space to learn from our own mistakes. No matter how little or big. And always showed us so much love.
You were the best Grandmother a girl could ask for.
You are already missed Grandma..But you will be in my heart always.
I know Papa is glad to have you by his side again.
Give Mason a hug for all of us.
We Love you!

When I became a Christian she passed by to shake my hand. She said, "I'm so proud of you. You just made the most important decision of your life." So thankful I was a child under her care. Those mustard seeds of faith started with her sweet loving spirit.
