GREENSBORO - Onie Elizabeth Brann Idol, 100, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Guilford Health Care.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2007, at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Idol was born November 10, 1906, in Person County, to the late John Charlie and Jennie Duncan Brann. As a young child, she moved with her family to Caswell County and helped on the family farms in that County. She moved to Greensboro in 1927, to attend Kings Business College. An accomplished seamstress, she worked in various stores in the sewing supply department and later worked as a seamstress in various work clothing plants in Greensboro.

Upon the outbreak of World War II, many secretarial jobs were available in the War Department. Her perfect opportunity arrived when the U.S. Army Air Corps opened a basic training center, which later became an overseas replacement center in Greensboro. She became a civilian secretary in the post headquarters and worked there until the center closed in 1946.

In 1930, she met her future husband, William A. ÒAndyÓ Idol, who was a native of Guilford County. They were married in June of 1945. From 1946, until retirement, she worked part-time as a clerk with the Internal Revenue Service. Mrs. IdolÕs hobbies included growing some of the most beautiful flowers in Greensboro and various sewing projects. When she asked why she lived so long, she was told that it was because of her enjoyment of GodÕs beautiful nature.

Mrs. Idol was preceded in death by her husband, William A. ÒAndy,Ó three brothers, Allie, Percy, and Jack Brann, all of Caswell County, Loney Tatum, Lottie Oakes, Ola Briggs, and Odell Denny, all of Caswell County.

She is survived by an only son, William A. Idol Jr. and wife, Peggy C. Idol of Greensboro; two grandchildren, Philip A. Idol and Stephen M. Idol, both of Winston Salem; sisters, Mabene Briggs of Burlington, Clara May of McLeansville, and twins, Orene Brann of Caswell County and Lorene Sykes of Florida. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel and other times at Bill and PeggyÕs.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 1501 Yanceyville Street, Greensboro, NC 27405.
