John P. "Pete" Kivlin

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for John P. "Pete" Kivlin, 90, a resident of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 19, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. The family invites you to join them at 4 p.m. for a prayer service, which will be offered to begin the visitation. There will be additional visitation offered in the Gathering Space at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church on Saturday from 9 a.m until the time of services.
Mr. Kivlin died on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport.
John P. Kivlin was born May 8, 1913, in Chicago, Illinois, a son of Charles M. and Amy (Van Hoeck) Kivlin. He was united in marriage to Agnes Anne Lehnerer on Nov. 8, 1941, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island, Illinois. His beloved Agnes preceded him in death on the identical date March 16 one year ago. They had celebrated nearly 62 years of marriage.
He graduated from the former St. Ambrose Academy and attended St. Ambrose College, Davenport.
Mr. Kivlin retired in 1976 from Alcoa where he had served as a Paymaster in the Payroll Department. He had been employed nearly 30 years at the time of his retirement.
John "Pete" enjoyed traveling. A truly fond memory was that of the trip he and his wife took to Ireland. His greatest accomplishment and the one thing he would say he was proudest of where his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorials can be made to St. Ambrose University or the Sr. Genevieve Freund Scholarship Fund in care of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Noreen Kivlin Carstens, and her husband, Ron Carstens, Gahanna, Ohio, and Cecelia and Charles Harmeyer, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son, Charles M. Kivlin, and Sue Neblett, of Bettendorf, Iowa; seven grandchildren, John and wife, Jennifer Kivlin, Dan and wife, Jeanette Kivlin, Finnian and Liam Carstens, and Melissa, Erin and Michael Harmeyer; four great-grandchildren, Allison, Katie, Owen and Evan Kivlin; his Aunt Gertrude Miclot, Bettendorf; a brother-in-law, Willie Lehnerer, Rock Island; and a sister-in-law, Betty Lehnerer.
