Oregon Louise Richardson 1921-2007
The late Hess A. and Agnes E. Washington welcomed their baby daughter, Oregon Louise Washington, into this world on August 1, 1921. Almighty God welcomed her into His eternal Kingdom in the early hours of Wednesday, April 25, 2007. Oregon Louise Washington was born while her parents were vacationing in Charlestown, West Virginia. She was the oldest of nine children that were both to these devoted parents.
The family lived in Huntsville, Maryland and later moved to Washington, D.C. Oregon attended Armstrong Vocational School and graduated from Mary Washington Vocational School. Oregon continued her education at the Howard University School of Nursing where she studied under Dr. Charles Drew.
Oregon served as a medical technician and nurse in the United States Army from May 17, 1944 to April 19, 1946. While serving, she was awarded the American Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. She accomplished these achievements despite the difficulties she faced during these segregated times. Asked why she joined the Army under these circumstances, Oregon replied, “Because, they told me I couldn't.”
After her discharge from the Army, she then attended the Benjamin Franklin Business School, where she met the late George W. Richardson. They were later married and their union lasted 43 years until he entered the Kingdom of Heaven in June 1990.
Oregon dedicated her life to her husband and six daughters. She was a devoted wife and mother and a caretaker for the elderly. Her hobbies included gardening, baking, opera and ballets. She instilled in her daughters her love of music and they all learned to play the piano.
Oregon accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age and was a faithful member of the Sanctuary, formerly known as Glendale Baptist Church, for over fifty years. She was member of the Pastor's Aid Club, Deaconess Board, and Mother's Board. She loved her church and this love was returned by all who knew her and affectionately called her “Mother Richardson.”
Oregon was preceded in death by her devoted husband, George W. Richardson, and daughter, Juanita E. White. Cherishing her memory and continuing her legacy are: devoted daughters Chiquita D. (William) Phillips, Deborah G. (Meredith) Garrison, Priscilla K. (Esco) Cromer, Agnes E. Fiawoo, Crystal L. Talley: devoted granddaughter and caretaker, Erika N. Owens; sister Geneva Chandler and Rosemary (Morris) Terry; and brother, David Washington. Those who called her “Nanny” were her twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. She also is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Your road was long, blessed, and bountiful – family matriarch, lady of grace, good friend, and dedicated child of the King. When you were present you could see the love of God upon your face. And we believe when you went to your heavenly home on the wings of the angels, the sky opened up and parted your way to victory. For God has welcomed you home dear Mother, to the gift of eternal life where your family and friends will meet you. The world will forever be blessed by your living because your legacy will continue for generations to come.
Love Always Your Family.......

Wow Mom, Happy Birthday! Late as always...One day I think I will be on time for something! I wish I could sit on the side of your bed and tell you some made up stories about Ashley and Cortez but I guess you already know what were up too. I miss you and dad allot I sometimes feel all alone but I know I'm not. I'm still here at Lockheed and I also know that God is preparing me and has much more for me to do in this life. I also, have been learning some life lessons and growing much in the spiritual things and I have learned to love unconditionally not only others but myself. You know that was an issue. As always I'm running my mouth, well not my mouth but my fingers. I have to go now and get back to work but until our next meeting I love you and personally thank God for me for ALL HE is doing! Love Me!

Dear Mother:
August 1st was your birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY my Love.
Today, I wanted you to know that I was given the gift of life, on July 7th, which is now my second birthday. (Of course you and daddy already know because you are looking down and keeping and eye on things.) Before going into surgery I felt GOD,Jesus, and the Holy Ghost, you and daddy, and the angels all around. I had nothing to fear.
With GOD's grace and mercy I came through and I continue to show progress.
I will need to take medications the rest of my life, it's all good.
Mom and Dad continue to watch over me, I feel I have a lot more to do here and I'm ready. I truly have a testimony.
Love you both,
Deborah

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Dear Dad and Mom:
What a amazing day to be an american and to be a black american.
Today, a day that I thought I would never live to see and wish that you and daddy were here to see; we have a afro-american President. This is something that you and daddy, and grandparents and great grandparents fought for. We just wanted to be respected as men and women. Well, that day has come. Through faith in GOD anyone can be what they dream of being.

“HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY” to the Most Grand, Royal, Majestic Mother ever born. As our Family Matriarch you are marked by Great Magnificence.
At the rising of the sun and at its going down,
We remember them.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of Winter, We remember them.
At the opening of buds and in the rebirth of Spring,
We remember them.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of Summer,
We remember them.
At the rustling of leaves and the beauty of Autumn,
We remember them.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends,
We remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength,
We remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart,
We remember them.
When we have joys we yearn to share,
We remember them.
When we have decisions that are difficult to make,
We remember them.
When we have achievements that are based on theirs,
We remember them.
As long as we live, they too shall live,
for they are a part of us, as We remember them.
Loving You Forever, Priscilla

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

When I take my vacations I think of you and miss the times I spent with you and bringing you lunch. I truly enjoyed watching TV and listening to your words of wisdom and knowledge.

I also miss you calling me "young man" which you always called me.
You are in my heart forever. I thank GOD for giving me a mother-in-law so endowed with love, wisdom and knowledge.

Dear Mother,
A year has passed and not a day goes by without me thinking of you and the good times we had. Oh, how I remember the fall days when we would take rides down 214 and eat at the seafood resturant and stop by the road for fruits and veggies, you truly enjoyed your time out, as I did too! I miss you and Daddy. The Lord truly blessed us with wonderful parents. I most remember the holidays with the baking and the smell of fresh paint, even to this day I associate those smells with the holidays, what a wonderful time.
Loving you always. Until we meet again.

My fondest memory was visiting you and your family when I was around 6 with my grandmother Carrie Bell, you were such a good host and made us feel at home. I regret not having more time in your company over the years. We saw each other maybe every 3-4 years, however I remember you were such a cordial and loving person. You never failed to compliment me, which made "my day." You will always be remembered with love and affection. You are truly missed and I know you are in heaven watching over your loved ones.
