Oscar Guerra Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2023.

Dateline: Falfurrias, Texas

Oscar Diego Guerra, devoted husband and father, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 17, 2023 surrounded by his immediate family. He was born on November 13, 1933 to Domingo S. Guerra and Ernestina Perez Guerra in Falfurrias, Texas, where he lived his entire life.

He began his career working at his family's Mobil gas station. He then worked for Texaco and Texas Industrial Services before finding his passion in the automobile industry. He continued in that business for more than forty years and has probably sold a car to almost everyone reading this. He loved trying to find the right car at the right price and never hesitated to let you know if he thought you were making a bad decision. He was also an avid sports fan and held a special place in his sports enthusiast heart for the Dallas Cowboys.

Oscar was deeply involved with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, beginning in his youth walking to daily mass with his grandmother, and later served as an alter boy. Throughout the years, he dedicated his time volunteering, cooking barbeque, managing fundraisers and selling tickets to raise money. If the church was in need, Oscar was there to help. He was also very involved with the Knights of Columbus and served as the Grand Knight.

He was always a kid at heart and enjoyed joking and playing tricks with his family and friends. He would even hop on a scooter and take a ride to entertain his grandchildren.

Of all of the things that define Oscar, he was first and foremost a man devoted to his family. He was a loving and providing husband to his bride and love of his life of 70+ years, Ofelia Arredondo Guerra. He was a loving, dedicated and involved father to his three children, a caring and compassionate father-in-law and a fun-loving and playful grandfather and great-grandfather.

There are no more "deals pending"...rest in love, joy and peace after a dedicated life well-lived.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Domingo S. and Ernestina P. Guerra and two brothers, Jose Luis and Alejo Guerra.

He is survived by his wife, Ofelia A. Guerra of Falfurrias Texas; two sons Jorge Luis (Adaline) Guerra of Premont, Texas; Alejo (Yomeida) Guerra of New Braunfels, Texas; one daughter, Norma Guerra Gaier (Bill) of New Braunfels, Texas; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will begin at 9am on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at the Alaniz Funeral Home in Falfurrias, with a Holy Rosary to start at 10am. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias, followed by the burial at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Aiden Alonzo, Vince Garza, Aubrey Guerra, Levy Martinez, Orlando Mendez and Lupe Torres
