Beloved husband, father, Bubba (grandfather), great Bubba, uncle, jokester, and friend

Otto Mergl, 74, of Wonder Lake, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, surrounded by family-with his signature humor still very much intact.

His happiest days were spent camping, snowmobiling, catching ski shows, grabbing coffee with his best buddies, enjoying his retirement life in Arizona, and showing up to support his grandchildren in everything they did. He was "Bubba" to more than just his own grandchildren and a loyal friend to all. He will be deeply missed.

Otto is preceded in death by his parents, John and Maria Mergl, and his brother, Louis Mergl. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Mergl; his children, Jeff Mergl (Jessica) and Jinny Mergl; and his beloved grandchildren Samantha (Dan), Collin (Claire), and Emma Mergl. He also leaves behind his nieces, nephews, and countless lifelong friends who will miss his loyalty and the way he made every room feel a little lighter.

A celebration of Otto's life will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 3-7 p.m. at Smith's Central Weddings and Events (Smith's Garage), 3315 Pearl St. in McHenry. In true Otto fashion, come as you are, raise a glass to the good times, and don't be afraid to laugh through the tears.
