Ottolene Browning

ABINGDON, Va. – Ottolene Thomas Browning, 85, a resident of Washington County, Va., died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was born April 6, 1922, in Galax, Va., a daughter of Dr. William Wallace McChesney and Ottolene Morrisette. She was raised in Holston Valley in Washington County by her adopted parents, Samuel Cox Thomas and Monnie McChesney Thomas. Mrs. Browning lived at Mountain Home, Tenn., until 1977, at which time she and her husband Tivis retired to Holston Valley.
She graduated from Cleveland High School, attended Virginia Intermont College and was a member of Cold Spring Presbyterian Church and active in the women's church work. She was also active in the development of Cleveland Community Center in Washington County.
Mrs. Browning was preceded in death by her husband, Tivis Browning; daughter, Ginny Eslinger; and granddaughter, Heather Browning.
Surviving family includes one son, Jeff Browning and wife Jeanie; one daughter, Brenda Browning Smith and husband Nat; one sister, Mary Louise Fleenor; eight grandchildren, Richard Hammett, David Hammett, B.J. Doughty, Hillary Jones, Holly Browning, Scott Lawson, Jason Lawson and Justin Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher Hammett, Matthew Hammett and Ethan Hammett.
Funeral services for Ottolene Thomas Browning will be conducted Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Cold Spring Presbyterian Church, Bristol Tennessee, with the Rev. Tim Meredith officiating. Interment services will follow in the Cold Spring Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel, Farris Funeral Service, 427 E. Main St., Abingdon.
Pallbearers will be Richard Hammett, David Hammett, Scott Lawson, Jason Lawson, Justin Smith and Christopher Hammett.
