Ovidio Fernandez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 28, 2014.
Fernandez, Ovidio, 90, of Tampa, passed away on Saturday, April 26th, 2014.

Ovidio (Obie) is survived by two children. His son Ivan Fernandez (wife Cynthia) and his daughter Melinda Collado (husband Tony). Obie has three grandchildren Craig Fernandez (wife DeeDee), Brian Fernandez, and Ashley Collado-Borrego (husband David).

Obie's wife Alma Fernandez recently passed December 1st of 2012. They were married for 71 years.

He was a loving husband and father and his family is very grateful for the time they had with him. We don't get to choose our parents and his family was very lucky to have parents that loved and cared for their children as much as they did. Obie will be remembered for his character and ability to befriend people and make them feel at ease. It seemed Obie knew everyone and everyone knew him. Obie's passions were people, fishing, and being outdoors surrounding by his loved ones.

Obie was a veteran of World War II and worked most of his career for Southern Wine & Spirits (43 years). He was a lifelong resident of Tampa.

The family would like to show their deep appreciation to Agnes Wagacha and Cynthia Oelke for their devoted care of Obie during his last years.

The services will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 7:00 pm at the Gonzalez Funeral Home located at 7209 N Dale Mabry, Tampa, FL 33614, with a prior visitation beginning at 5:00 pm.

Dear Fernandez Family,
We will greatly miss Obie and Alma in Pass A Grille. It was always a great pleasure visiting with them during their trips to the beach. They watched Karen and I grow from dating, to engaged, to married, to having 5 children. They seemed to enjoy watching the process, both always smiling….
We pray that God holds them closely, till will met again.

Our time together on this earth will never be enough, we will hold our memories of all of the wonderful time together in our hearts until we meet again. I feel so blessed that I had the pleasure of calling you my Grandfather and great great Grandfather to Matthew and Oliver. We are the lucky ones to have had a place in your heart.
