Owen has been a part of our family well before I was even born. He was about as tough as they come and would always insist on doing things himself. He was always willing to help with anything you asked of him and was always ready with a witty comment or a great story. I remember when I was in elementary school and I was being chased down the street by some kids. When I ran into the driveway of my grandparents house, Owen and his wife Florence were in front of the garage and told those kids to take a hike. The kids had no idea what to say and took off. My grandma would love to tell that story, I've heard it a hundred times and it still makes me laugh. Owen was from an era that doesn't exist today. He was from a time when you could help your neighbor, leave your doors unlocked, trust people, and had a strong belief in selfless service to country, and hard work and sweat was the way to earn a living. His morals and great sense of humor were unwavering and I cant recall a time ever seeing him without a smile or an outstretched hand for a hand shake or a pat on the back. He was always ready for a good card game and some good conversation. He loved getting us all sugared up with candy (usually skittles) and soda while we played Skip-bo. Owen was one of the last great human beings and my family and I will miss him greatly.
