The dark that descended upon the night of November 5 th , 2024, will forever cast its shadows only to lose itself in the light of a spirit left behind. Its chaos will sup with our peace, its grief will dance with our joy. For what happens when love meets death? Life means all that it has ever meant. A soul eternalized through jokes and stories, laughter, and prayer. Unchanged, untouched, the same as it ever was. Only in the next room, waiting.

Owen David Schaffran was an enduring conjuror of mayhem. He had all the personality that comes from a man who could grow a full head of hair. Short in stature, larger than life. He possessed the confidence to rock a straw hat with a battery powered fan embedded in the crown, the audacity to pair it with a floral button down and the ability to actually pull it off. His cashmere beanies are what made him an icon. His opinions of quality pizza made him a snob, and his home-made peanut butter pie made him invaluable. Raised amongst the loudest of women, he would never admit to being one himself, though he was. Loud with his style and his thoughts and his humor. Pleased and purring with satisfaction after every flawlessly executed prank or witty rebuttal.

Crippled with his loss, we lean on these sentiments like a crutch. Just as you see the face on the moon, we see him in every circle of pepperoni on a pizza. We wait for his elated giggle after a punch line. In our silence, we hear the opening and closing of a door as he steps out - just real quick - to take a puff of his vape. He will be right back. He is just outside the door. Only out of sight, never out of mind.

Owen is survived by his Allison, his son Cole, his mother Patricia Schaffran, his loud women - A.K.A. his sisters, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and the countless friends he gathered along the way. He is preceded in death by his father, Russell Schaffran.

The family asks you join them in a celebration of life Saturday, April 12th, 2025 at the Clatskanie Cultural Center, 75 S Nehalem St., Clatskanie, OR 97016. Celebrations will begin at 2pm.
