Pamela Ash Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 5, 2025.
Pamela Young Ash, born on September 20, 1944, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, at the age of 80 due to heart failure. A longtime resident of Ellicott City, Maryland, Pamela spent her later years in Mount Pleasant.

Lovingly known as Grammy, Pam, and Pammy, she is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Bruce Ash, and their three children: Stephen Lucas Ash of the Outer Banks, North Carolina; Kimberly Ash Kolesha of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; and Amy Bennett Ash of Longmont, Colorado. She also leaves behind their spouses-Jennifer Bowen Ash, Kurt Kolesha, and Jaimi Norden-and nine cherished grandchildren: Noah, Megan, Caroline, Luke, Beck, Chloe, Logan, Jett, and Bennett and her beloved cat Charlie. Pamela was predeceased by her parents, Theodocia Lucas Young and George Young.

Pamela's Catholic faith was central to her life. She found joy in gardening and had a deep love for chocolate, flowers, and animals-including cats, dogs, birds, bunnies, and squirrels. She was happiest surrounded by nature and always chose homes nestled among trees and gardens.

Described by a friend as "so ladylike but strong and so loving and kind," Pamela was known for her positivity and uplifting spirit. Her warmth and friendly nature drew people to her instantly. A dedicated hospice volunteer, she often sang hymns to comfort those nearing the end of life.

A Catholic Mass celebrating Pamela's life will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Ellicott City, Maryland, on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception. In her memory, donations can be made to Hospice Foundation of America.

Pamela's kindness and loving presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she touched.

The four of us traveled many miles looking for the perfect antiques! Thank you Pam for so many happy days and laugh full moments. Thank you Suzanne for getting us all together for traveling and for this picture possibly in 1990.

While attending U of Md, I remember Bruce excitedly telling me that he just met his wife and I started laughing and he said....Gregory, I am serious. I said really? and he laughed and said yes she is the one--I am telling you! We laughed some more. Shortly thereafter we went out together and we were in her parents' house either at the start or end of the date and somewhere I have an old-time photograph of them in front of the fireplace and I think a mirror was over it. (Catonsville?) Cant remember who was with me exactly but doesn't matter does it. Pam and Bruce were absolutely wonderful and so happy together. Pam was always nice and loved animals and flowers etc. I always enjoyed my time over 50 + years visiting them. Sometimes I got a stern eye look from her but it was due to my flawed personality......LOL. She didnt want me to be a bad, lol, influence on Bruce. Bruce and Pam were just a great couple and always considered them my favorite and will miss her and Bruce being together of course. As an aside, growing up and living near Bruce and his parents were a big part of my life in Ellicott City. Bruce and I were in the ECFD together and we went to first grade together. One night we rode Engine 4 to a real big fire in an apple butter plant all the way up in Sykesville. We went so fast that I couldnt count the white lines to esti our speed. We couldnt peek over the bed cuz the wind would grab our metal helmets. Then, we saw a Howard co. police car on our right and we were passing it! He said he was doing 115 mph! Looking back, we were really lucky the truck tires didnt blow and kill us all. Well, I digress easily. Bruce: Please dont die before me............
