Pamela Barlow Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 27, 2025.
Pamela Joan Barlow (1944-2025)

Pamela Barlow (nee Stanis), 80, beloved mother and grandmother, died peacefully on June 25, 2025 at her home in Homewood, IL.

Pamela was born on the South Side of Chicago in 1944 to the late Raymond and Genevieve (Gene) Stanis. She and her twin sister graduated from St. Francis High School in Wheaton and Benedictine University (then known as St. Procopius College) in Lisle. She entered the convent and worked as an elementary school teacher after taking her final vows.

Pamela eventually left the convent and started a family of her own. After settling in La Grange, she earned a BSN from Rush University in Chicago, working as a nurse while raising her six children. She transitioned into management near the end of her career, serving as a nurse manager at Hines V.A. Hospital in Maywood before retiring. A lifelong learner, Pamela subsequently entered law school at Valparaiso University, graduating with a JD in 2008.

In her younger years, Pamela was a wonderful cook. She favored cooking French cuisine and was never afraid to experiment with baking. Her holiday meals were outstanding. Pamela was a talented gardener, digging up her entire front yard in La Grange to create a beautiful perennial garden before it became common practice. Pamela was a voracious reader. In between activities and sometimes well into most nights, she was sitting in a comfortable chair, absorbed in a new novel or history book, reading up to the last days of her life

Pamela's greatest passion in life was her family. Spending time with her siblings, her children, and later, her 11 grandchildren, always brought her joy. Her loved ones will never forget the smile that would light up her face when family members visited for a quick chat or a summer pool party at her condo.

Pamela was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Gene, her brother Raymond and her husband, John Barlow. She is survived by her sisters Patricia, Judy, and Mary; her brother Joseph; her children Matthew Arado, Elizabeth Connolly (Peter), Patricia Butcher (William), Charles Barlow (Jordan), Genevieve Barlow (Vince Schaefer), Anne Bradley (Nate), and her 11 grandchildren.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at St. John Fisher Church, 10200 S. Washtenaw Ave., Chicago; 10am visitation and 11am celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of Pamela's favorite charities: St. Joseph's Indian School at stjo.org/flowers.

Dear Liz, Peter, Anthony, and Lucy,

Our sincere and deepest condolences on the loss of your Dear Mother and Grandmother! What an amazing and driven woman to have accomplished so much while raising six wonderful children! Your mother`s children and grandchildren are a reflection of her perseverance, and determination to do great things! May Pamela Rest In Peace And Rise In Glory!! I recently read that "Grief is love that has no place to go." Love each other the way your Mother and Grandmother loved you! May that comfort you and bring you peace!

All our love,
Noreen and Bill

To my beautiful. That's what I would call her. "My beautiful". My heart hurts to know that you are no longer here. I remember the day that I meet you . You were so weak but yet so strong and defiant. I remember thinking to myself, I got hell on my hands. She is feisty and a fighter. It was during those times that we were battling over medication, equipment or maybe even an additional visit for week that I relized that you were not just my hospice patient you had become my friend. Rest well my beautiful friend because you put up a hellva fight. Love you Donna C.
