Pamela Haahr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 26, 2023.
Pamela J (Machin) Haahr, 92, of Vancouver, Wa, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2023 of natural causes at home surrounded by loving family.

Pamela (Pam) was born in Hull, East Yorkshire, England to Edwin and Kathleen Machin on August 6 1930. She went to school at the Priory Road School in Hull and worked at the local fish and chip shop. Growing up during the War she had many stories to tell of her life and how they all survived. Memories that many will never have to endure and that hopefully nobody will forget. She met and married a handsome military man Dunrick (Don) Haahr, the "yank" as her father called him. How could he resist her beauty, she had been crowned Miss Potato Queen of 1949 you know, as all the family was always lovingly reminded. Then the journey of a military spouse began. She came to America and began her new life as a full time stay at home mother. Traveling started soon after for the Air Force taking her from one coast to the other and back to Europe living in both Spain and Germany. Eventually retirement brought Don back to Portland, Oregon. Pam was still a stay at home mom and doing day care for neighbors. Her love of children and them for her was evident every time she was around them. She loved people but children were her favorite people. Few years later Pam worked outside the home doing different customer service jobs once her kids were older. She worked for the Airport Sheridan gift shop, Sears catalogue store, Import Plaza and ending her career at the age of 82 waitressing at Home Town Buffet. She was a clothes stylist loving to find her wears at Goodwill and Salvation Army, and making outfits that others would envy. She was very involved in the Timbers booster club in the 70's welcoming the lads and their families into her home. She became a second mother for many of them so far from home, and still remained friends with them and their families. Frequent hosting parties were had, and provided all with a good time with lots of laughs. Pam was a second mom for many who needed an ear or a place to go, the door was always open. She was loved by many because she was friendly and loving, always caring and non judgmental, adventurous, curious, mischievous, along with a wicked sense of humor. Didn't hurt that she was pretty cute with big blue eyes and her English accent that drew people in. Later in life her and Don divorced after many years of marriage and her fierce independence was exposed. She loved her life and her family meant everything to her. She will be really missed by many and her stories will live on thru us all. It will make a smile come to our faces when we have a thought with her in it. We were all very lucky to of had her in our lives.

Pam is preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Kathleen, and her two siblings brother Syd, and sister Kath.

Pam is survived by her three children Susan (Nick), David, and Stephen (Letha), 7 Grandchildren, Jamie, Shane, Chase, Elizabeth, Trevor, Taylor, and Collin, 6 Great Grandchildren, Samantha, Abigail, Cooper, Ben, Londyn and Casen, and two upcoming in September. Nieces and nephews Pam, Liz, Janet, Mike and their families. In addition to her many other "kids" who meant so much to her as she did to them.

Memorials may be given to St Judes Children Hospitals, Humane Society, or any agency involved with foster care or homeless youth.

The family of Pam would like to thank all those involved in her care over the years, care givers Nick, Victoria, Vasily and Ava of Victorias Loving Care, Nurse Stephanie, neighbors Betty and Darlene, Columbia House staff Roman, Lyle and Angela, and good friend Sherrie Conrad.

There will never be another Pamela Haahr. I first met Pam in 1975, and she became my rock, my friend and my second mum. I would have been lost without her. Our friendship endured over miles and the years. I will always treasure the memories and feel blessed to be able call Pam my friend, love you Pam xxx Jane Day

Heaven has gained another sweet angel.
Although we never saw each other often or chatted has often as we should have due to the distance between us and the hustle and bustle of life she always made us feel loved, cared about and was willing to chat about everything and anything.
You are truly missed Auntie Pam. Rest in Peace Dear Lady.

Love from: Mike, Wanda, Corey and Ben Machin
