In Loving Memory of

Pamela Denise Thornton Alexander

Sunrise: July 20, 1953 - Sunset: July 12, 2025

Pamela Denise Thornton Alexander departed this life peacefully on July 12, 2025, in Sumter, South Carolina, just days shy of her 72nd birthday. Born on July 20, 1953, in Nashville, Tennessee, she was the cherished daughter of the late Mr. Arthur Thornton, United States Army, and Mrs. Edwin Louise (Paskett) Thornton.

A gifted and determined student, Pamela graduated from Central High School in Nashville at the age of sixteen. She earned multiple scholarships and chose to attend Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications and Journalism.

Her professional journey began as a journalist with the Gannett Corporation and blossomed into a rich and multifaceted career. Pamela wore many hats over the years - flight attendant, real estate broker, notary public, and passionate community advocate - each role reflecting her boundless curiosity, unshakable work ethic, and commitment to service. But of all the titles she held throughout her life, none brought her more joy or pride than those of mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and faithful servant of God.

She found peace and joy in nature, especially through gardening, where she felt closest to the divine. She lived by example, teaching her children the value of hard work, the importance of ownership, and the power of using one's gifts to uplift others. She raised her children to be world changers and wrapped her family in a love that was deep, enduring, and unconditional.

Even as she faced a courageous battle with cancer, Pamela's faith in God never wavered. Her strength came from an unshakable belief that God was her Savior - a faith that sustained her through every hardship. She remained devoted to the care of others and continued her advocacy, leaving behind a legacy rooted in compassion, courage, and grace.

She is survived by her loving sister, Lou Nell Johnson and niece, Kandace Miles; loving brother, Michael Thornton, Sr. and spouse, Eleanor; her devoted children, Edwin Nichols and Domiana Alexander Carter and spouse Paul; her treasured grandchildren, Paul Carter Jr. and Alexander Carter, and her beloved nephew, Michael Thornton, Jr. Pamela is also lovingly remembered by extended family, dear friends, and the countless lives she touched through her presence, her work, and her unwavering faith.

A celebration of her life was held on Saturday, July 26th, at the Birnie Hope Center in Sumter, South Carolina - 210 S Purdy St, Sumter, SC 29150.

Pamela's life was a testimony of grace, grit, and God's glory. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life beautifully lived - a life that inspired, uplifted, and transformed all who were blessed to know her and she will always be with us.
