Patrice Ann Rives

Patrice Ann Rives, 38, of Damascus, Md., died Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Johns Hopkins Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. from complications of cancer. Patrice is survived by her husband, Scott Louis Rives and beloved daughters, Haddie Jane and Anna. She was the daughter of Patrick and Maureen Diskin Lyons of South Abington Twp. and a sister of Eric Patrick Lyons and his companion, Camille Renicke of Scranton.

Patrice was a proud 2001 graduate of Abington Heights School District where she was a member of the junior varsity cheerleading team and a member of the championship diving team. Patrice continued her education at Bloomsburg University, graduating with honors in 2005 with a B.A. in elementary education. Patrice taught in the Montgomery County, Md. School District since graduating from Bloomsburg. During this time, she obtained her master's degree in education and reading from Johns Hopkins University.

She was the light of our lives and fought hard but lost her short battle with cancer. She was the most amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend and teacher. She inspired endless amounts of students through her work and touched the hearts of every single person she encountered.

Thank you to all our family and friends who have reached out to us with support, thoughts and prayers over the last month and we thank you! We thank God for the gift of her life for the 38 years that He blessed us with her presence. We rejoice in her spirit every day of our lives. "Parting is such sweet sorrow."
