Brandon - Ms. Denton, 91, left this life on April 10th 2018, after having suffered from a stroke the week before. A wake will be held for her at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS on Friday April 13th from 4:00p.m.-5:00p.m for family and 5:00p.m.-8:00p.m. for all other visitors. A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, April 14th at 2:00p.m. at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens on Highway 80 in Pearl, Ms.

Ms. Denton was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Milley and by her Parents, William Henry Ponder and Pheba Alna Ponder from Magee, Ms. She also lost her first husband Sam Cook and her second husband Joe Denton.

She is survived by her children: Reba Cook, Dave Cook(Becky), Sammy Jerald Cook, and Cathy Perez(Ray). She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Stacy Wall(Brian), Hillary Cook(April), Adam Cook(Megan), Drew Cook, Wade Perez(Becca), and Shelley Petrosino(Carmen) and leaves two great grandchildren, Kelby Wall and Jacey Wall. In addition she will miss out on the birth of her third great grandchild in August.

Ms. Denton was educated at Mendenhall High School, graduating from Magee High School in 1944. She married Sam Cook three days before he left for World War II. They built a family in South Jackson in the Forest Hill area. She worked in the field of Arthritis with Ms.Weir. Thereafter she was trained at Draughns Business College. She worked as a receptionist/secretary at the Mississippi State Highway Commission from then on until she retired at age 62.

Ms. Denton always wanted her family close by her side for all her life. She was totally responsible for special care she provided to her son, Jerald. She made a special effort to visit her son, Dave, when he was in the Navy by taking trip to Jacksonville to see him, during his years of service in the Vietnam War.

She loved completive games such as bingo and dominos, always involving her family members in their little bouts of playing games and having huge meals which she cooked. She loved domestic challenges such as food and sewing. She was renowned for making adjustments to anyone's clothes. She took great pride in making special dresses for her daughters, as for graduation and their wedding dresses. She told everybody about how proud she was and happy that she could provide this for her girls. She also loved to crochet and made many dollies for numerous people. She did this for keepsakes and loved to give them out on special occasions, like Christmas. She leaves behind many loved ones and many special stories in our hearts, most of which we can't tell here. We know her brothers and sisters will understand, because they love her, too.
