Patricia Crosslin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 28, 2025.
Patricia Lee Crosslin (Mattos), age 83, passed away peacefully at home with family on September 25, 2025, in Ogden, Utah. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend, Patricia touched countless lives with her unwavering kindness, humility, and dedication to others.

Born on October 18, 1941, in Oakland, California, Patricia was the daughter of Arthur and Billie Mattos. She grew up in Oakland and graduated from Castlemont High School. Her passion for education led her to pursue a teaching certificate at Ohlone College in Fremont, California. Later, she earned her Master's of Education from Weber State University (then College), further deepening her commitment to shaping young minds.

Patricia devoted 37 years of her life to teaching at Saint Joseph's Elementary School in Ogden, Utah. Her classroom was a place of inspiration and encouragement-a space where every child felt seen and valued. She believed deeply in the potential of each student and never wavered in her conviction that they could succeed. One parent reflected on her influence by saying, "She not only taught them English, but she taught them what it meant to be a positive force in today's world." Patricia's legacy as an educator lives on through the many students whose lives she enriched-many of whom continue to speak of her impact decades later.

Beyond the classroom, Patricia was a woman of profound compassion and quiet strength. She lived her life with humility and grace, never seeking recognition for her many accomplishments. Her joy came from seeing others happy; she consistently put the needs of others before her own. Whether as a mother comforting her children or a friend offering a listening ear, Patricia gave freely of herself with warmth and sincerity.

Patricia is survived by her four children: Edward Crosslin (Jan), Vicki Meredith (Dwight), Toni Cottrell (Larry), and Kirsten Stuart. She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren-Amber Cottrell, Weston Cottrell, Evan Crosslin, Connor Crosslin, Damon Meredith, and the late Ashley Stuart-and a loving great-grandmother to Calvin Cottrell, Jackson Cottrell, Haley Cottrell, and Rowan Crosslin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Billie Mattos, and her granddaughter, Ashley Stuart.

Though there will not be an immediate service at this time, a celebration of life is being considered and will be announced at a later date.

Patricia Lee Crosslin will be remembered for the love she gave so freely-to her family, her students, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory bring comfort and inspiration to those she leaves behind.
