PATRICIA CROWE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 31 to Jun. 3, 2016.

CROWE Patricia Barr Crowe, PhD. Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at her home in Arlington on May 26, 2016 after a long illness. Pat was born on June 29, 1933 in Paris, France, and lived both abroad and in the US on many Army posts where her father was stationed. She accompanied her family to China in 1948. In 1949 she was evacuated with her sister and mother to Japan when the communists took over China. Upon her return to the US, Pat graduated both High School and Junior College from The Holton Arms School. Pat married Godfrey Crowe in 1954, and she continued to travel, accompanying him on his Army assignments until they settled in Arlington, VA. Pat received a Bachelor, Master and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in clinical psychology from The George Washington University while raising five children. She served as director of the children''s clinic at the Arlington County mental health center until goinginto private practice in 1975. Pat pursued training, and became one of the first clinical psychologists to be certified nationally as a psychoanalyst. Pat maintained an active practice until 2009, when she suffered a stroke and retired. Pat had a quick wit and an incredible sense of style. She was an excellent cook and a gracious hostess, extending invitations to dinners, or family vacations, always wanting to include others in things which brought her joy. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, being at her home in Maine, gardening, cooking, and raising her many dogs over the years. Her myriad talents were evident to all she met. She was passionate about her career, always seeking to increase her own knowledge, and impart this knowledge to others. Pat is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Col. J. Godfrey Crowe, USA (ret); children, Dr. David Crowe, Susan Mumford, Trish Reifenberger, Karen Brandecker and Finnie Caldwell; and by 11 grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents Maj.
