Patricia Herzog Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 14 to May 17, 2008.
Our beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, business woman, volunteer, mentor and Granpal, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, May 11, 2008, following a valiant year long battle with Scleroderma and multiple cancers. Patricia, aged 76, will be remembered for her brave, gentle spirit, generous, loving heart and positive approach to life, that touched us all. Patricia was born in Pateros, WA in 1932, and grew up in Pateros and Wenatchee. She graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1950. She moved to the Seattle area in 1951, following her marriage and finally to Issaquah in 1959. She worked in the 1950's for Seattle City Light, before starting a business with her husband, Bill. During this time, she was active in the Seattle Jaycees and served as the State Secretary of the State Jaycees Women's Auxiliary. The Herzogs ran their business in Seattle for more than 30 years. After "retirement," Patricia continued to run a small business from her home, became an active member of SeniorNet of Puget Sound and was a founding member of its Granpals program, which brought seniors together with children in the Bellevue schools. Patricia was an avid fan of the sports, theater and music endeavors of her children and grandchildren. She attended virtually every event in which they participated and was a special fan of Jeff and the Jet City Fliers, a Seattle blues band. She was also an ever faithful fan of the Mariners and season ticket holder, watching the games from home, after her illness made it impossible for her to attend in person. Patricia is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bill of Issaquah; sons, Jeff and his wife, Alisa of Seattle, Scott and his wife, Lori of Broken Arrow, OK, Steve and his wife, Kim of Renton; daughter, Sally Jo and her husband, Trung Nguyen of Sammamish; grandchildren, Bradford, Whitney, Vienna and her husband, Mauricio, Wesley, Geneve, Russell, Charlie, Paris, Ankara and Addie; great-grandchildren, Michael, Joey and Jayden; sister, Marilyn King of Wenatchee; brother, Bill Compton of Yuma, AZ; sister-in-law, Charlene Compton of Wenatchee; her nieces and nephews; her cousins; her lifelong friends in the "Dizzy Dozen" of Wenatchee High School; her friends at St. Andrews Lutheran Church of Bellevue and in the Cougar Mountain neighborhood of Issaquah; her friends at SeniorNet and it's Granpals program; and the staff and children she loved so dearly, at Phantom Lake Elementary in Bellevue, where she was a long time volunteer. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. David White, Dr. Nancy Shasteen, Dr. Emily Transue and their wonderful associates at the Polyclinic of Seattle, as well as the staff of Swedish Hospital and Swedish Home Care Services, without whose help we could not have managed this past year. Memorial Services will be held at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 2650 148th Avenue SE, Bellevue, WA, on Friday, May 23, 2008, at 1:00 p.m., with a reception following in the church Annex. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Scleroderma Foundation, American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, SeniorNet of Puget Sound and it's Granpals Program, the Bellevue Schools Foundation, the Issaquah Schools Foundation, St. Andrews Lutheran Church, or Swedish Homecare Services.

The Herzog family was the first family the O'Briens met when we moved to Cougar Mtn...I have known them since I was 8. I will miss your mom deeply and will enjoy reliving the memories of camping; the "big" tree falling;and the other great times we had back then. Peace to your family, Love, Donna
