Pat was an incredible neighbor and friend. She was like family to us, joining us at Thanksgiving and birthday parties and other celebrations. She rejoiced when we rejoiced and was sad when our hearts were broken. She interceded for us when we were having trouble conceiving and she celebrated with us when our son was born. When I had to take my 18-year-old cat (my first "baby") to the vet to be put to sleep, she offered to come with me so I wouldn´t be alone. She worked fervently for a week every month on call duty at St. Vincent DePaul (probably till she was about 89-ish?), coordinating support for those in need. She gave so much to others and was a woman of incredible grace. We miss her so, so much.

Ms. Mastro was my Kindergarten teacher in 1971. For me, Ms. Mastro was like a surrogate mother. And probably like many of my classmates, this was the first time I was away from my mother for a few hours each day. Ms. Mastro made that an easy transition by being kind, patient and understanding.
The kids would bring in packages of cookies that were put in a cupboard for circle sharing time. Even though we all got our turn, I was thrilled when Ms. Mastro called on me to distribute my (favorite), Salerno Butter Cookies.
She will be missed by those she loved and who loved her. That includes me.
Rest in peace, Ms. Mastro.
