Patricia Matthews Obituary

Certainly! Let's lift the spirits with a playful twist to honor Pat's memory:

---

Patricia Anne Matthews (née Turk) of Portland, Oregon, after 79 delightful spins around the sun, decided to hop on the comet express for an interstellar adventure on January 20, 2024. She burst onto the scene, confetti cannon-style, on December 3, 1944, endearing herself to parents Albert and Edith Turk, who quickly realized they had a live one on their hands!

Pat, queen of the quirky and duchess of dazzle, transformed her home into a year-round festival of joy. Her Christmas displays out-twinkled the Milky Way, and she brought more bling to the holidays than Santa's elves on a glitter binge. And oh, how the ornaments on her tree told the stories of decades of cheeky cheer!

Adventurer extraordinaire, Pat was the Lewis to her family's Clark, pioneering through Oregon's wilderness with a skip in her step and a s'more in each hand. Diamond Lake was her Walden, Fort Stevens her Gibraltar, and Depoe Bay the punchline to her many watery tales that left us all in stitches.

Pat sailed the high seas of retail with the wind at her back and a deli slicer as her first mate. She commanded the Safeway Deli and Seafood Department like a seasoned skipper, leaving waves of laughter and loyalty in her wake. She merchandised, marinated, and managed with the artistry of a sea captain navigating the vast aisles of food and friendship.

Her crew on this earthly voyage includes her brother, 'First Mate' Douglas Turk, his stalwart sidekick Sally, and their merry mariners, Angela (plus her swashbuckling partner Perry) and the cabin boy Charles Underdown. Not to be outdone in tales of high-seas bravery, 'Scallywag' Sherry Turk sails alongside, with trusty deckhands Joab and Rachel, who, along with bosun Nathaniel Crissman, keep the good ship Matthews afloat.

Ahoy, mateys and merry-makers! We're charting a course for a gathering that's worth its weight in pirate gold, where tales of Pat's jolly capers shall be traded. If you're keen on celebrating a life that was the treasure chest of our existence, leave your blooms ashore and cast your generosity towards a charitable port that resonates with you, as it did with our fearless Pat.

Patricia Anne Matthews, our mirthful maestra, may have left our shores for the great briny deep of the cosmos, but she's simply taken the party intergalactic. As we navigate our world with a touch less twinkle, let's hoist our sails in her honor-because in the grand voyage of life, Pat's spirit is an eternal 'North Star' of nautical nuance. Bon voyage, dear Pat, and may your cosmic cruise be as fantastically fun-filled as the life you lived here with us. Anchors aweigh!

Pat and her sister Sherry were valued neighbors of my family for years. As our little corner of the planet got more dangerous sometime around Covid, the diminished ranks of the neighborhood grew closer. We were lucky to have friends of that caliber around-none more so than those two. And such a smile!
When Pat moved, she graciously left us her tools, picnic table, benches and beautiful potted plants. The tools await a proper project and more skilled hands, but the picnic table is regularly used. Even dearer to us, those perennial plants now frame our treasured backyard pond and waterfall. Such a positive reminder of life's beauty all Spring and Summer long.....it's like they smile on us every day. And such a smile! Will add pics when these April showers bring May flowers...
