Not only did Mrs. Martin serve as a second mother, she provided invaluable critiques of my writing. If she could read the obituary above, she would doubtlessly say, 'While very good, you could write a much more powerful obituary if you used more active verbs. Try re-writing it without using any form of the verb, 'to be' or 'to have' and never begin a sentence with the word, 'there'. I miss her.

Patsy (Mrs. Martin, to me) was a second mother for most of my growing up. I can hear her laughter even now...she was full of love, full of fun, full of energy as well as a great inspiration of someone who picked up the pieces and made the most out of life, even in the face of great personal tragedy. I only hope that she and my dad are enjoying a good laugh together, along with Mr. Martin, and that we will all be together again some day.

Please extend to Amy, my heartfelt hug and best wishes. I will never forget being at Grant Elementary School and in 1984, she came up to me and said: "We all thought that he would live forever"....it was about my father's passing. It meant the world to me that, even as an Administrator, she was able to step out of that role and extend a sincere message of her caring, as she and her family (Amy) were part of a neighborhood that I grew up in. I have tried to pass that example on, the best I am able.

I was fortunate to meet Patsy, through Lisa. What a delightful, spirited, energetic, and lively lady she was. We will all miss her dearly. All who met her were touched by her. We were blessed to have known her. She was beautiful at her granddaughter's wedding!
