Patricia Murphy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 20, 2025.
Mrs. Patricia "Miss Pat" Murphy, age 79, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, in Ocala, Florida. A woman of deep faith, boundless creativity, and unwavering authenticity, she left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born Patricia Robertson on February 17, 1946, in Camden, Arkansas, she was the daughter of James W. Robertson and Kathaleen Robertson. From a young age, Pat exhibited a vibrant spirit and a love for learning that would guide her throughout her life. She pursued higher education at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, earning a bachelor's degree in Education and Philosophy-fields that reflected her thoughtful nature.

Pat's professional journey was as diverse and dynamic as she was. She began her career as a third-grade teacher, nurturing young minds with patience and care. Later, she became a respiratory therapist, offering healing and support to those in need. Eventually, she embraced life as a full-time homemaker and crafter-a role that allowed her to pour her heart into creating beauty with her hands. Her talents were many: sewing, quilting, knitting, beading, needlepoint, making walking sticks and clothing-each craft infused with her signature flair and attention to detail.

Throughout her life, Pat generously shared her skills with others by teaching quilting and knitting classes. Her passion for fiber arts was matched only by the joy she found in helping others discover their own creative voices.

Faith was the cornerstone of Pat's life. Even before becoming a pastor's wife through her marriage to Arthur Carlton Murphy Jr.-who preceded her in death-she was deeply involved in church life. She taught Bible study to high school students and volunteered tirelessly within the church community. Her artistic gifts extended to worship spaces as well; she lovingly created banners for churches to mark liturgical seasons and special occasions.

Pat's personality was magnetic-she radiated warmth and humor wherever she went. Her charisma drew people close; children especially found comfort in her kindness and playful spirit. She had an eye for the absurdities of life and delighted in them with laughter that could light up any room. Her eclectic style was unmistakably hers-boldly expressive and joyfully unconventional.

Despite facing challenges with mental health throughout her life, Pat remained full of love and humor. Her resilience inspired those around her to embrace their own imperfections with grace.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Sara Murphy; son-in-law Jon Mastantuono; sisters Kathaleen Powell and Barbara Young; as well as countless friends whose lives were touched by her generosity and light.

May Patricia's memory continue to bring comfort to those who knew her-and may we carry forward the kindness, creativity, and laughter she so freely gave. A Memorial Service will be held on June 20, 2025, at 10:30am at St. Paul's United Methodist Church 800 SE 41st Ave., Ocala. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Pat are invited to make a donation to St. Paul's United Methodist Church Ocala or The Human Rights Campaign.
