Patricia Ross Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 30, 2025.
Goodyear - Patricia Ross, 98, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, in Goodyear, Arizona. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of the Tempe community, Patricia lived a life marked by service, creativity, and deep love for her family.

Born on September 28, 1926, in Palestine, Illinois, Patricia was raised in Indianapolis before moving to Queens, New York during her high school years. She graduated from Jamaica High School in 1944. At just 17 years old, she began her professional journey as a receptionist at an advertising agency located in the Empire State Building-a role that sparked her lifelong appreciation for working in an office environment.

In 1959, Patricia relocated to Arizona where she pursued her passion for floral design. As a trained florist and freelance designer, she contributed her talents to several local businesses including Arizona Flower Shop, Posey Post, and Marge Smith Flower Shop in Tempe. Her artistic eye and dedication to beauty left a lasting impression on those who received her floral creations.

In 1963, Patricia began a new chapter with the City of Tempe's Parks and Recreation Department. Over the next 25 years, she served the city with commitment and pride until her retirement in 1988. Her work helped shape the community she loved so dearly.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Patricia was deeply committed to volunteerism and civic engagement. She served on the Salvation Army Board and held leadership roles as Past President of both the Tempe Zonta Club and ESA Alpha Kappa Chapter-where she was a proud member for over 70 years. She also served on the Connecting with Kids Board and gave generously of her time delivering meals through Meals on Wheels and assisting at the Tempe Library.

A woman of faith and fellowship, Patricia was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Tempe. She actively participated in United Methodist Women and Unity Circle and contributed to the church's mission through service on its Foundation Board.

Patricia found immense joy in spending time with her family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Karen Wilson (Don) and Shelley Brannan; grandsons Dereck Wilson (Kellyn), Kyle Brannan (Megan), and Chase Brannan; and great-grandchildren Trent Wilson, Ashlyn Wilson, and Palmer Brannan. Her favorite sentiment-"My daughters are my pride; My grandsons are my joy; My great-grandchildren are my delight"-beautifully captures the depth of love she held for each generation.

She will be missed dearly by her family and by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those whose lives she touched through kindness, service, and unwavering warmth.

What a wonderful woman Pat was. Always such a joy to be around while we were growing up. She had a caring and complete life.

My rock is gone. So many wonderful friends and associates have left. It´s lonesome. Pat was so instrumental during my early days in 1969 and throughout her time with us. We shared so much personal with each other. She and Bernita shared birthdays. We loved her. I always said, she was not MY secretary. She was the heart and soul of the department. Knowing this day was coming, made it just that much harder.
