Patricia Van Dam Obituary
Patricia Van Dam, of Claremont passed away on May 31, 2014 under Hospice care. Pat was born on December 26, 1955 in Richland, Missouri. Her family had immigrated from Holland in 1951. She was a homemaker, coach, host mother, friend, and a board member of several agricultural councils. She was also a devoted member of the 1st United Reformed Church of Chino with her husband, Bert Van Dam of 38 years. She survived by her daughter Renae (Jeremy) and her son BJ (Windy). Also, her sister Teresa of Washington, sister Janet of Texas, and her brother Peter of Chino. She also leaves behind 4 grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 4pm to 8pm at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Riverside. Burial will be held on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 9:30 am, followed by a memorial service at 11 am at 1st United Reformed Church, 6159 Riverside Dr., Chino. The family wants to thank all the family and friends for their help and support during this sudden loss. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salem Christian Homes, 6921 Edison Ave., Chino, CA 91710 or at salemchristianhomes.org. Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Park and Mortuary is in charge of arrangements, 11500 Arlington Ave., Riverside, CA 92505.

Just found out about Patti's passing at the Farm Bureau Convention. I am so sorry for your loss. I was in LFB with her, always enjoyed talking about agricultural issues with her. Patti's passion for agriculture and her family was so obvious. She will always be missed at Farm Bureau functions.

My dear friend, Patty, will be greatly missed by me. We shared many interests, such as; art, English history, religion, world views and just plan fun. We shared the love of family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, mother in law and of course, wife. My daughter, Krissy and Patty's nephew, Ed, lived with patty and Bert last spring when their house sold quickly. Patty was often one of the few women to sit on agricultural advisory boards. I always admired her willingness to speak up and offer an alternate perspective. She contributed greatly to the agricultural community and industry. She will be greatly missed.

Patty was my host mom for a year. She became a real friend and I am so thankfull for the opportunity that she gave me to spend a year at their place. She drove me around like she was my real mom, she helped me in understanding the American society, we had great discussions on the differences between the US and Europe. After my exchange year we became real friends and stayed in touch. We travelled together, what a cruise for her 50th birthday, and she met my entire family and many of my friends. Last time we saw each other, only a few weeks ago, we were making plans again of travelling with all the kids to Disneyland for her 60th birthday....
When I tell people that she passed away than everybody comes up with his or her memory, even when they met her only once, 10 years ago! She was a great person! I learned so many things from her and it was really a privilage to get to know her. She will be in my heart forever! Thank you so much for all the things you did for me, you are one of the most remarkable people I have ever met! My thoughts are with Bert, Renae, BJ, Pete and the family! Even far away in Belgium we miss you already!
