AKEY, Patrick F.
Plattsburgh, NY resident Patrick F. Akey, 56, died Sunday, September 29, 2013, after losing his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Pat was born November 20, 1956 in Alexandria, Louisiana, to Franklyn and Lucie Akey. He married the love of his life, Diane Teixeira, on November 25, 1978 in Staatsburg, NY. Pat had a passion for the hospitality business. He is best remembered for Ponderosa Steakhouse, Putters Miniature Golf and Go-Karts, Hampton Inn & Suites, Microtel Inn & Suites, and Uno Chicago Grill in Plattsburgh. In 2011, Pat received the North Country Chamber of Commerce Joe Bornstein Award for Business Person of the Year. Outside of work, Pat had a wide range of interests including his love of skiing, bicycling, fine food and wine, Formula One racing, Plattsburgh State Men's Basketball, Montreal Canadien's Hockey, vacationing with his family, and enjoying the Florida sunshine. Pat considered Montreal his home away from home with an adopted family of Canadian friends and his favorite restaurants and entertainment. Pat will be remembered for his love of children, his value of hard work and integrity, and his passion for entertaining friends. He was a great conversationalist and was known as a mentor and source of inspiration. He loved working hard to provide for his three most important people. Pat is survived by his mother Lucie Akey, his wife Diane; son Pat; daughter Kristie; siblings Angela. Nephew; Joe and Karen Akey; Debbie Akey and Kevin Petrashune; Raymond and Jennifer Akey. Nieces and nephews include Chris, Joe, Frank, Jacob, Isabel, Leah, and Cora. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Calling hours will be Wednesday between 2 and 4 p.m. and 6 and 8 p.m. The funeral is at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Saint Peter's Church, in Plattsburgh. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 26 Emory St., P.O. BOX 770, Morrisonville, NY 12962

Dear Diane, we are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of your husband Pat. Although I only knew Pat for a brief period on this earth , I had developed the greatest esteem for Pat. He was an exceptional human being and will be missed by all who knew him. I will always remember his sincerity and good advice , a man full of good for others. It was with great shock that my wife & I learned this morning of Pat's passing. We have known Pat for many years and thoroughly enjoyed patronizing his businesses. He was an outstanding individual and businessman.
We always look forward to our frequent stays at the Microtel hotel and UNO restaurant. Our heartfelt condolences to his wonderful wife, Diane,their children, staff and his many loyal clients.
