Patrick Crampton

Patrick passed away unexpectedly at the age of 78 on the evening of October 30th from congestive heart failure at the residential care home where he had resided for the past year and a half. He caught us all off guard, but then he could be very unpredictable. Due to health issues he was unable to get out and about but he appreciated the frequent visits and phone calls with friends and family. He remained mentally strong and never lost his sense of humor or unconventional outlook on life.

He was born on April 20, 1946 in San Francisco to Dr. John P. Crampton and wife Kathryn, now both deceased. He grew up in La Jolla, attended San Diego Military Academy and received his BA in philosophy from UCSD. In 1970 he married Susan Olney and son Sean followed soon after. Divorcing in 1999, the family unit continued to remain close. Patrick loved surfing and the ocean. It was a source of peace for him. A great conversationalist and an avid reader, he always carried a book wherever he went. He was a colorful character with a brilliant mind. He pursued interests in metaphysics, tarot, and astrology. If you knew him, he probably has done your horoscope or given you a Tarot card reading. He was loved and will be missed.

Patrick was predeceased by his son, Sean Crampton, who sadly lost his battle with brain cancer this past June. Patrick is survived by his loving sister Trudy Fabian and her children, including Jay Fabian who brought him coffee and conversation Sunday mornings, his 'family' of friends whom he held dear and his former wife Susan Olney, a.k.a. 'the Landlady' and caretaker of his beloved cat, Danny.
