Patrick Delaney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 13, 2025.
Patrick Dennis Delaney peacefully passed away at home on July 8, 2025 surrounded by his loving wife, daughter, and other family members. He was born on February 3, 1955 in Washington, D.C. to James Francis and Esther Ruth Delaney who pre-deceased him. Pat is survived by Rainy, his wife of 37 years, and their daughter, Kate; his sister and her husband, Peggy & Greg Ernst; and his step-mother, Anne Delaney.

Patrick had a long and impactful career in IT, where he was often the go-to guy who could solve your computer woes faster than you could say "have you tried turning it off and on again?" Outside of work, he was an avid baseball fan, fiercely loyal to the Washington Nationals. Even during the rough seasons (which made his loyalty all the more impressive).

Pat had a deep appreciation for music of all kinds and never missed an opportunity to entertain. Whether it was through storytelling, belting out a tune, or cracking a well-timed joke, he had a way of bringing people together and keeping the room smiling.

Though Parkinson's Disease joined him for the later chapters of his life, Pat made it clear that it didn't get to write the story. He kept moving, literally, zipping around on his scooter, challenging anyone brave enough to a game of ping-pong (often to Rainy's dismay), and staying at the center of the social whirl among his Del Webb friends and neighbors. Pat lived with heart, humor, and the kind of spirit that couldn't be slowed down.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 18 at the Riverlights Del Webb Amenity Center in Wilmington, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the following organizations:

Michael J. Fox Foundation

Lower Cape Fear LifeCare/Hospice

1414 Physicians Drive

Wilmington, NC 28401
