Patrick DUNLEAVY Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen on Feb. 16, 2016.
DUNLEAVY, Patrick
February 5, 1991 – February 12, 2016
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Patrick Dunleavy, cherished son of Michael Dunleavy and Marie Lemay and loving brother of Anne-Marie, at the age of 25. He will be greatly missed by his beloved girlfriend, Hilary Asselin, as well as by aunts, uncles and cousins in Ottawa, Pakenham, Toronto, Thunder Bay and Saudi Arabia, and by his many loyal friends. During his four year struggle with brain cancer, Patrick always maintained a positive outlook as he adapted to the ongoing restrictions that his illness placed upon him. During that period he graduated from Algonquin College with a diploma in Construction Engineering, started his own business ("Paddy's Aeration") and volunteered at the Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre, on top of the many hobbies he cultivated on the side. Patrick loved life and he loved people. His bright and engaging personality brought out the very best in those who were blessed to have known him. He was helped by many people along the way, particularly Francesco Tangorra of Algonquin College, Jocelyne Campbell with his aeration business, Claude Bédard and Cindy Des Lauriers of the rehab centre and Hilary's parents, Phil Asselin and Carol Schwartz who treated him as their own son. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, other health practitioners, priests, volunteers and the many friends who supported him throughout his journey and allowed him to live life to the fullest. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Beechwood (280 Beechwood Avenue). Funeral service to be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 20 at St. Patrick's Basilica (220 Kent Street, at the corner of Nepean Street). In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada or to the May Court Hospice.
