Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Sep. 15, 2007.
HOOD PATRICK August 19, 1923 August 24, 2007Patrick Hood passed away peacefully at his home, Yaletown House, after a short struggle with cancer and having recently suffered a stroke. Patrick was predeceased in 1976 by his son, Michael, and in 1995 by his wife, Bette Hood. He leaves behind 4 children, Paul, Alan, Barbara, and Laurie, 11 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.Patrick (ÃPaddyÄ) had a long and varied life. One of eight children and raised in abject poverty in northern England, Patrick at the age of 12 was sent to Canada with his two younger sisters to attend Fairbridge Farm School. In 1940 he enlisted in the Navy and served overseas for the duration of WWII. Post-war, Patrick completed high-school and entered Law at UBC, graduating in 1952. There, he met Dorothy (Bette) Fee, and the two were married and raised 5 children, in Dollarton, North Van. He set up a Law practice in Vancouver's Chinatown and practiced there for 34 years. Patrick was an avid reader, philosopher, and social activist, and had a finely honed sense of justice. He never forgot his roots and constantly sought to help the ÃunderdogsÄ of the world. During his final years, Patrick enjoyed relatively good health, engaging in reading, attending the theatre and discussing current events. Right till his final days, he never lost his fine Irish sense of humour and fighting spirit. ÃHere's to you, Paddy!Ä You will be sadly missed. A celebration of life will be held for Patrick on Friday September 28th, 2007, from 3:00PM till 5:30PM at The Ironworks, 235 Alexander Street, Vancouver.

We remembered Patrick as a man, who loved the good things of life. Sharing a meal together, Patrick in a good mood having a conversation with humorous witticisms and enjoying a Dutch cigar together with Jan, my late husband.
