Patrick Jenkins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 24, 2017.
Patrick Jenkins, 47, of Allentown entered eternal life on January 21, 2017, after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Patrick died peacefully at Lehigh Valley Hospital with his family and close friends by his side. Born in Wilkes-Barre on February 21, 1969, he was the son of Joan (Crehan) Jenkins and the late Edward Jenkins. He was the loving husband of Amy (Fixl) Jenkins whom he began dating during their freshman year of high school and with whom he shared 22 beautiful years of marriage. He was a devout Roman Catholic; a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church; a member of the Knights of Columbus; and involved in Pro-Life activities. He graduated from Bishop Hoban High School and Rochester Institute of Technology, with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Prior to his diagnosis, Patrick served as Director of Security at Sanofi Pasteur, Swiftwater. He also was employed as a Project Manager and Consultant for Gilbane Building Company; Global Security Manager at Agere Systems; and System and Electrical Design Engineer at Techneglas. Patrick's family is extremely grateful for the excellent care he received from Lehigh Valley Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, especially Dr. Suresh Nair and the incredible people who took care of him in the Oncology Suite and MPA as well as his dear friends and family Dr. Kevin Roth, Drs. Kim and Rob Corba, Dr. Jay Varrato, and Dr. Michael Scarlato. The family is also deeply grateful to the amazing support they received from the community. Patrick was the quintessential family man, passionately dedicating his life to his wife and children. For Pat, it was never about Pat. His caring nature led him to always put the needs of others before his own. He involved himself in every detail of his sons' lives and he loved to watch them play sports, especially baseball, lacrosse, and basketball. He supported, respected, and loved his wife unconditionally. He was deeply rooted in his strong faith, always believing in the love and mercy of Jesus Christ and the peace and beauty that would await him after his passing. He was and will always be an inspiration to all who knew him. Just before God called him home, he whispered "no regrets." Survivors: In addition to his wife Amy, and mother, Joan, he is survived by his loving sons, Michael, Jack, and George, all at home; parents-in-law, John and Mary (Hughes) Fixl of Allentown; brother and sister Edward Jenkins and Colleen DeLuca (Mountaintop), brothers and sisters-in-law, Luis and Christine Alvarez (Bethlehem) and Thomas and Mimi Murphy (Mountaintop); several nephews and nieces. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother Kevin. Services: Relatives and friends are invited to Patrick's viewing on Thursday, January 26 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, January 27 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Parish Center at St. Joseph the Worker Church, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield, PA 18069, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Wargo, Rev. Joseph Kweder, and Rev. Charles Kociolek, C.S.C. as Celebrants. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Patrick towards St. Joseph the Worker Church or The Jenkins Children Education Fund c/o Stephens Funeral Home, 274 North Krocks Road, Allentown, PA 18106.

To Patrick's family: I was blessed to meet Pat and work with him at Sanofi Pasteur. We worked on 2 United Way campaigns and were quite successful. Our themes were hero and pay it forward. Both themes fit Pat to a tee. I know your loss is great and I will keep all of you in my prayers. He was so proud of each of you and I know you all feel the same about him

Our thoughts are with all of you at this time. Pat was a wonderful person, I feel blessed to have been able to know him and see the true love and devotion he had for all of you. He was always so giving and selfless in volunteering, asking to help out even when faced with so much, he wanted to be involved.
He will be missed by many who were lucky to have him touch their lives.
May you find comfort in the many wonderful memories and know that God truly has a special angel by his side.

Amy and boys- So sorry to hear about your loss. We got to know Pat thru Tyler Ilgenfritz playing baseball. He was a kind and generous man. He asked me to stand with him under a tree at a ball game because he knew I didn't like the heat. His great personality came thru even when he was ill. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Jenkins Family,

I consider it an incredible honor and a privilege to have known and worked with Patrick during the last several years at Sanofi Pasteur.

He was always an amazing colleague -- offering wisdom and thoughtful counsel, encouraging me to think differently, gently yet effectively challenging the status quo. He was respected by everyone he came in contact with, from senior management to the state police to the security team he managed.

Yet, some of my fondest memories with Pat were the community volunteerism and engagement activities. Doing good while doing well was a philosophy he readily embraced, which complemented his selfless, caring, warm, and generous spirit.

Yet, his friendship is what I will cherish most. To know someone who truly has your back, and who appreciates you for the real you -- flaws and all -- is such a rare and precious gift. I am forever changed.

My deepest sympathies to Pat's family, friends, and many fans, as his absence in this world is a loss that cannot be described in words.

Miss you friend.

I just want to say how very sorry I am for your recent loss of your father/husband. I am so glad that I got to meet Pat and your family through Kyle. At times like this our faith serves us well. We can take solace in knowing that your dad has gone to his eternal rest. He lived a faith-filled and upright life and he will be remembered for all the good that he did in his lifetime. Dear Jenkins family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy. I am one and of the MPA nurses that had the pleasure of treating Patrick over the years. I never met such a selfless person - I never heard him complain or ask why him. He always asked about my family or myself or one of the other nurses. He truly loved all of you and I'm sure he endured a lot to stay longer with you. We've lost a kind and genuine man but heaven has gained a wonderful addition. May God bless you during this difficult time.
Sincerely, Monica Michalerya

Pat's obituary clearly summarizes his valued time with family and friends! Pat's demonstrated grace and compassion during his illness was an inspiration to me! Offering his umbrella in 90 degree sun and heat to another parent during a baseball tournament this past fall in Delaware moved me to be a better person! Thanks Pat!

January 24, 2017

Dear Amy and Family -

So sorry to hear about Pat's passing. We've thought of you guys so many times since the community fundraiser at PHS.
Your boys are amazing and with Pat watching over them now, I'm certain they're still going to do wonderful things in life and will enjoy it to the fullest!

Our family, as well as so many others, has been touched by cancer in some way. My husband raised over $8,000 for the American Cancer Society on his last PPRAC ride and this summer he plans to raise more. We hope some day, the contributions to research will pay off and more cures will be available to future generations!

You'll stay in our thoughts and prayers.
Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you Amy!

Fondly,
Tracy, Damien, Madison, & Caitlin Dugan

The Staff at Center for Asthma & Allergy Care also send their condolences.
