Patrick Joyce Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 8, 2024.
Patrick Michael Joyce, affectionately known as Pat, passed away on August 29, 2024, in Fort Myers, Florida, at the age of 77. Born in Chicago, Pat lived a full and vibrant life marked by his outgoing and friendly nature. He never met a stranger and loved life passionately.

Pat graduated from Evergreen Park High School and later earned a BS in Chemistry and Biology from Southern Illinois University. His academic achievements in the sciences were paralleled by his athletic prowess; he started wrestling in junior high, which led to a full college scholarship.

Professionally, Pat was a visionary in the real estate and building industries. He co-founded Joyce Realtors in 1979 and Joyce Builders, contributing significantly to the development of the southwest suburbs of Chicago. His career began in sales, where his charismatic personality and keen business acumen quickly made him a respected figure in the industry.

Beyond his professional life, Pat was an avid sportsman. He was a skilled golfer, tennis player, skier, and boater, and he cherished the opportunities to travel the world. His hobbies were not just pastimes but passions that filled his life with joy and excitement.

Pat is survived by his loving wife, Debbie, and his sons, Patrick Michael Joyce Jr. (Stephanie) and Chad Matthew Joyce (Denise). He was a proud grandfather to Morgan, Kevin, and Treasure Joyce. Pat also leaves behind a sister, Peggy Foley; a brother, Jack Joyce; nieces Jackie Blicharz, Julie Thenell, Jodie Rockett, Lisa Chatys, Lindsey Ramadan; and nephews Don Clark, Michael Clark, Joshua Hammersmith, and Caleb Hammersmith, along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Joyce; his uncle Jim Vitner; aunt Bernie Vitner; and grandparents John and Teresa Brenner.

A celebration of Pat's life will be held at Gulf Harbour on October 29th, 2024, and a subsequent celebration in Chicago on December 7th at JC's Pub. AAv Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.

Pat's legacy is not just in the buildings he constructed or the deals he made but in the countless lives he touched with his generosity and warmth. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

So many great memories of Pat. The first is one we went skiing in Vail and Pat jr met us for dinner . We had had a long day skiing and some drinks before dinner. We met at a restaurant and someone asked our names. They guys were Pat, Pat & Pat. Hilarious that the person would not believe it.
Pat also encouraged us to let our Nicole, 1st child going off to college, go to ASU in 2008. He said "Pat you got to let them go see what's out there, experience new things, and get out of the Midwest mentality. It will open up so many more opportunities". I also remember every 5 years or so his boat got bigger. We loved his spirit, optimism generosity & smile. We will miss him dearly. Pat & Jackie
