Patrick McCarthy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 11, 2023.
Patrick "PJ" McCarthy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick J McCarthy at 82 years young, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in July of 2023 and lost his courageous battle on November 8th, 2023.
Patrick, better known as "PJ" or "The Chief", was born in Chicago, IL., September 6th, 1941, to Patrick Joseph McCarthy and Grace Kelly McCarthy. He grew up in the Irish Catholic Wrightwood neighborhood, on the far south side of Chicago, with brother, John and sister, Denise. Here, he attended school and was an altar boy at St Thomas Moore Parish.

At the age of 18, he started following his dream of being an Artist, studying at the Art Institute of Chicago and working as a route delivery-driver for Pepsi-Cola, from there, he worked his way up the ladder to Vice President of Pepsi Cola General Bottlers, overseeing all broadcast media for markets throughout the U.S. and securing the exclusive pouring rights at Wrigley Field for the Chicago Cubs. PJ was a Pepsi generation legacy and a well-known Chicagoland personality, loved by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him! When asked, "How are you?" PJ coined the phrase, "I'm a vodka rocks away from being borderline flawless".

PJ had three children, PJ jr., Christy and Sean, with his first wife, Dorothy Dugdale. They raised their family in Oak Lawn, IL., where Pj's creativity and love for architecture led him to
refurbish their small family cottage into a luxurious Spanish colonial style ranch home, that was featured in a multiple page
layout, in the Chicago Tribune's Home Edition.
PJ spent his retirement years with his second wife, enjoying his mountain home in Heber Valley, Utah and his desert home in Temecula, CA. He enjoyed being out in nature, had a profound love for animals and spent his days creating beautiful paintings and other fine works of art.

PJ McCarthy was truly one of a kind, a legend, with a genuine, warm and engaging personality, a great storyteller, an avid joke teller and a true friend to anyone who got the privilege to know him. He will be greatly missed by all of those that loved him.
PJ is survived by his second wife Sharon Moscari, his children, PJ Jr. ( Kerry), Christy (Gordon), Sean ( Suzanne), his brother John (Linda) and sister Denise ( Larrie), first wife Dorothy Burke, grandchildren and many cousins.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the medical professionals at Utah Hospital in Provo, Intermountain Hospice, and The Lodge for their compassionate care during PJ's time of need.

A Celebration of Life will be held at his daughter Christy's home in California, with the date to be determined.

May PJ rest in eternal peace as he goes home to be with the Lord, reuniting with his parents and celebrating with the many beloved pals who await his arrival for his heavenly reunion

It was amazing growing up in the McCarthy family and being around Pj, Chris & Sean. Lifetime of memories that I hold dear to my heart, passing along to my kids the influences he had on me. I took this picture of Pj doing what he loved to do with his favorite friend at the Sleepy Hollow home. Pj Was Bigger Than Life To Be Around. One Christmas back in the 90's Pj gave me a book that he wrote a message in
" Chinese gave us gun powder God gave us brains use that energy to further yourself "

My husband and I met PJ at the ranch. Pj was like my Dad we could sit and talk and watch our 2 golden retrievers Sydney and Sundance play for hours.
The right up on PJ was so perfect. He was always telling us where to go when we would travel. He was kind and always had a story to tell. He will be missed very much.

Being a friend of PJ Jr, I had the opportunity to meet PJ at an impressionable age. I observed how PJ carried himself with grace and distinction. He was confident and driven and quick to share these attributes with others. I paid close attention and was blessed to have a role model and a mentor like him. When in his presence with his own sons, I was often introduced as one as well. Rest in peace PJ but my guess is your afterlife is going to be as active as your life with your friends and family that passed before you.
