Patrick McEvoy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 10, 2025.
Patrick Joseph McEvoy, born on March 27, 1927, in Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan, Ireland, passed away peacefully after a short illness at his home in Rohnert Park, California, on October 11, 2024, surrounded by his three children. He was 97 years old.

Patrick was raised on a family farm in Ballyjamesduff, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the community. One of eight siblings, Patrick is survived by his three children: his son Brian and Brian's two daughters, Molly and Makena; his daughter Jennifer and her husband, Matt, and his youngest son, Andrew. He is also survived by his older brother, Michael.

In 1950, Patrick immigrated to the United States, settling first in New York City before proudly serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from November 1950 to October 1952. After his honorable military service, Patrick pursued a career in the airline industry, moving to San Francisco in 1961. It was there that he met and married Marie Roberta Gensoul in 1967. Together, they built a life and settled into the community of Greenbrae, California, where Patrick built the home where they raised their three children. After 10 years of marriage, Patrick and Marie parted ways, and he lived the remainder of his life as a devoted bachelor, cherishing his independence and close relationships with his family and friends.

In 1970, Patrick embarked on an entrepreneurial journey by founding Visas Unlimited, a travel documentation service. He owned and operated the business until 1991 when he sold it and attempted to retire. Never one to stay idle, Patrick found a new purpose at the age of 73 when he joined Home Depot as an associate. His work there brought him immense joy and connection, and he remained employed up until his passing-which was a true testament to his tireless work ethic and zest for life.

As a young man, Patrick dreamed of becoming a tenor and even studied opera when he first came to America. Though his professional life took a different path, his love for music endured. Patrick was a devoted patron of the San Francisco Symphony and Opera, where he found great joy and inspiration.

Patrick was a social creature, always connecting with others through his quick wit, jokes, and captivating stories. He loved to travel, and he had a lifelong appreciation for art and culture. Later in life, he dedicated himself to home improvement projects and gardening, finding joy in building, creating, and generously sharing flowers from his garden.

Above all, Patrick was an extraordinary father who adored his children and his son-in-law Matt. He was their biggest fan, always cherishing time spent together and supporting them in every way.

Patrick's deep Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his life and guided him through every chapter. His devotion inspired those around him and provided a foundation for his enduring optimism and strength.

Patrick Joseph McEvoy lived a full and remarkable life, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering positivity. May his memory bring comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, at 11:30 am, St Joseph Catholic Church, located 150 St Joseph Way, Cotati, CA 94931

Such a wonderful, energetic man. He had a great sense of humor and disposition. I worked closely with him for many years in the early 2000's. I will never forget him.

I met Pat back in 1975. I was 18 and looking for a full time job. A friend referred me to Pat & I went for an interview. He had the best Irish accent ever. He was a wonderful person to work for & together we watched the business grow. Visas Unlimited became a staple in S.F. I worked there for four wonderful years & got to know his lovely family.
I will always remember him & his charming personality. God bless him and God bless his family.

I have the fondest memories of "Uncle Pat"....he was the quintessential Irish gentleman. Quick with a joke, the first to laugh at a good story, and always kind and willing to help. (And of course he enjoyed a "wee nip" from time-to-time) My life journey disconnected me from Pat & the McEvoy family.....to my great loss and regret. Rest well Patrick....God loves you for sure, and heaven will be a richer place blessed by your spirit. All my sincere condolences to Jennifer, the boys and the entire McEvoy family. T. Jackson
