Patrick McHugh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 13, 2025.
Endicott NY - Patrick Andrew McHugh, born on November 17, 1958, in Kingston, New York, passed away on July 4, 2025, at the age of 66 while visiting friends in Virginia Beach, Virginia. A current resident of Endicott, New York, Patrick spent his final days surrounded by laughter and camaraderie, as he so often did throughout his life.

Patrick dedicated his career to serving the developmentally disabled as a Social Worker for the State of New York. His unwavering commitment to helping those in need was a testament to his compassionate nature and desire to make the world a better place.

An activist at heart, Patrick was deeply engaged in politics with an emphasis on gay rights. Patrick used his voice to advocate for change through writing a newsletter, editorials and networking with those who could improve the lives of marginalized people. He held a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, which he initially pursued through his love of cinematography. Despite not working directly in the film industry, his passion for film never waned, and he cherished every opportunity to discuss the nuances of cinema with friends over a cup of coffee.

His favorite moments were the simple ones-gathering with friends, sipping coffee, playing cards and engaging in lively conversations that could last for hours. Patrick's warmth and empathy left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Andrew and Patricia (Crosby) McHugh. Patrick is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Moeri and Melanie McHugh; his brothers, Daniel McHugh, John McHugh, and Joseph McHugh; numerous nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of friends who will deeply miss his presence.

Patrick McHugh will be remembered for his dedication to service, his passion for activism and film, and most importantly, for the love and laughter he shared with those around him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sons of Italy in Endicott on Aug 17.
