Patrick Mooney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 29, 2024.
Patrick Joseph Mooney, 53, of Patchogue, New York, passed away on May 20, 2024. The fourth of five children, Patrick was born to Paul and Nancy Mooney on April 7, 1971 in New Lexington, Ohio.

Patrick graduated from New Lexington High School in 1989 and went on to work at Star Engineering where he pursued a career in welding and steel fabrication. After moving to Long Island, NY in 2002, he continued to develop his passion and skill for welding and earned several certifications for advanced welding applications. He was a talented craftsman who honed his skills and took great pride in his projects. He was proud to have contributed to portions of the construction of One World Trade Center. He later earned his CDL and perilously navigated tractor trailers through New York City and beyond.

Patrick was charismatic, funny, and bold. He loved music and could play guitar and would easily sing a song for anyone willing to listen. He loved motorcycles, tattoos, body building, landscaping and never turned down a round of golf. He enjoyed visiting the dog shelter to walk dogs but his favorite and most beloved canine was "Crystal the Pistol". He was an amazing storyteller and could garner a laugh with his wit and humor. His love for his Irish heritage was surpassed only by his love for Notre Dame Fighting Irish football. Patrick lived his life one day at a time and was a man of faith who prayed daily for serenity and guidance. He was a fierce and loyal friend and brother who will be missed and never forgotten.

Patrick was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy and his father, Paul. He is survived by brother Matthew (Dee) Mooney of Phoenix, Arizona, sister Joan (Mark) Royce of Springboro, Ohio, sister Emily Mooney of Healdsburg, California, sister Meg (Dan) Foster, of Delaware, Ohio, niece Annabelle Royce and nephews Sean Royce and Aidan Foster.

Calling hours and a brief service will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Ruland Funeral Home in Patchogue, NY from 7pm-9pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 2pm-5pm at St. Rose Church Rectory Community Center in New Lexington, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Patrick's name to Phoenix House of New York (https://phoenixhouseny.org/donate/) or New York Bully Crew Dog Rescue
(https://www.nybullycrew.org/donate).

Pat, You will be missed greatly. We had some laughs on the golf course. Wicked sense of humor, and that Irish knack for story telling. Miss you already, rest in peace my friend.

He was such a sweet man... especially to my daughter, Amirani. He had a nickname for her, "Tootie Roll". I would always see him gardening and doing landscaping for people and he would work so hard and do an exceptional job! Patrick, you will be missed by a whole lot of people. Rest in Peace

Pat and I was out one Saturday night on a backroad that we weren´t too familiar with and talked about everything you can imagine. We came very close to hitting a BIG BLACK COW I´m sure the cow would´ve won. Lucky for us we stopped in time. Pat surprised me one day at Marty´s house I believe and played the piano and sang the prettiest song I think I´ve ever heard. I didn´t have a clue he was such a talent. He was a true friend and I will miss him immensely. I´m still shocked at his passing and only hope to someday reunite with him. Love you Pat. From your true friend Shane Fox.
