Patrick “Pat” Rose, III Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 11, 2024.
Patrick "Pat" Henry Rose, III walked peacefully into Jesus' open arms on September 27, 2024 in Dallas, Texas. Born in Del Rio, Texas on March 11, 1944, Pat graduated from Del Rio High School where he played football. He went on to attend Texas Tech University, Texas Christian University and Schreiner University studying agriculture.

Pat was an honorable man. As a 5th generation pure rancher, he returned home to run the family business, Double R Ranches, in Brackettville raising sheep, goats, cattle, and horses. His passion for agriculture was evident in the exceptional quality of his Rambouillet sheep. His dedication to raising livestock resulted in multiple grand champions at various stock shows across Texas, and the highest scoring and selling rams at the Texas A&M Sonora Experiment Station.

Pat's dedication extended to his love for sports, with a particular fondness for the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and San Antonio Spurs. If his favorite teams weren't playing, he loved to watch Westerns, especially Gunsmoke.

There is nothing he cherished more than watching his children grow up teaching them to show sheep and ride horses while also coaching their softball teams. His eyes twinkled with love and pride spending time with his seven grandchildren, truly the highlight of his life. He was a man of few words, but his family will always remember his gift for choosing the perfect birthday and celebration cards to express how he felt. Pat filled his life with a love of family, friends, ranching, and a good cup of coffee at Ziggy's with his "crew".

Pat is survived by his loving children Misty Richardson and husband James of Somerville, Dusty Ellis and husband Aaron of Dallas, Patrick Rose, IV and wife Merritt of Dallas, and Sarah Tompkins and husband Josh of Ennis; his seven grandchildren, Coral Ellis, Birch Ellis, Catherine Rose, Jack Tompkins, Emma Tompkins, Everly Tompkins, and Sadie Tompkins; his sister, Janet Long; nephews Jay Long and Josh Long and wife Leslie; great nieces; and his former spouse and the mother of his children, Sharon Shurley Rose. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pat Jr. and Winifred Rose, and his brother-in-law Jack Long.

In his memory, we invite all who knew him to share their stories and photographs on his memorial page. As we mourn his passing, let's also celebrate Pat's life, the joy he brought, and the moments he shared with us.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Kinney County Junior Livestock Show. Donations may be mailed to P.O. Box 1434, Brackettville, TX 78832 with a note "in memory of Pat Rose".

The family will host a memorial service on November 9 at 10:00am at First Baptist Church of Brackettville with a reception immediately following at Pat's favorite local spot, Ziggy's BBQ.
