Patrick Rice Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 22, 2024.
Patrick Kevin Rice, age 56, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 18, in Arlington Heights, IL. He was born in Torrance, CA on September 25, 1967 to Robert Blackinton and Karen Hiltgen. Patrick graduated high school at Oregon Public High (WI). Early in his career, he quickly worked his way up to general manager and worked devotedly for several companies. In 2000, he made a remarkable transition into the world of IT launching his own thriving company. In his free time, Patrick savored his role as father of three and devoted husband of thirty-four years. He enjoyed competitive poker as a hobby and was an an enthusiastic UW Badger Football fan.

Patrick is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Mary (Cook) Rice and three children: Cassandra (James) Roberts of Cedarburg, Joseph (Emily) Rice of East Troy and Joanna (Riley) Rice of Elkhorn. He was blessed by a grandson, Wesley James Rice, this July. He also leaves his father, his mother, two sisters, six brothers and many nieces and nephews who miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Stacy Rice, his mother and father in-law, Fred and Elizabeth Cook, a brother-in-law, Fred G. Cook III, and his step-mother Candy Blackinton.

Patrick was a hard worker and devoted Christian. He possessed an easygoing nature and served those around him with a kind and generous heart. He is missed by family and a large community of friends and colleagues. He will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Delavan Comfort Inn Suites, 313 Bauer Pkwy in Delavan, WI from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. CDT. All who attend are encouraged to wear their UW Badger t-shirts, sweatshirts or hats in honor of Patrick's true passion.

We had the pleasure of being neighbors to the Rice family for ten years when we lived in Elkhorn. Mary and her family are very special to us. Patrick and my husband were workout buddies at FLAC. We shared many chats and laughes in our backyards. He will be missed his smile was infectious! May God give his family comfort at this time. Bernard and Marjory Hayes.

When I received the email, I was in a meeting at the office in Des Plaines. To say I was devastated is an understatement.
I need to express my deepest condolences to everyone who worked with him and Patrick´s family.

I met Patrick after I had a stroke in 2021. I had emailed and called my former IT guy, multiple times, with no response. I reached out to a neighbor that worked from her home and she gave me two names, one of which was Gerald Vales.
I gave him a call and explained what had happened to me, and he said well I only work on telephone systems, but I have a colleague who I am certain can help.

That´s how I met Patrick.

He outfitted our whole office in Des Plaines, our Ranch office in South Texas and my home in Geneva. He also installed Dragon software that could recognize my voice when I was initially recovering. I´m happy to say that I do not need that software anymore. I wish I could have told him that.

He was the most upbeat person I have ever met. He was always reachable, and ended every conversation with "Have a wonderful day!"

I wish I could be there with you this weekend, to honor him. He literally saved my career.

Please express my deepest sympathies to everyone that worked with him and his family. He will be truly missed.

Patrick was such a kind and generous employer. I was always impressed with his knowledge of the IT universe! Your customers trusted you, as did those that were blessed to have known you! You will be missed and may you rest in peace!

We grew up together as brothers sharing lots of memories over many years growing up together. We worked several jobs together early in your career. I wished to share some time together with you on my visits to Wisconsin but unfortunately was not able to. I look forward to seeing you in the paradise (John 5:28,29) my big brother. You will be greatly missed until then. In great sadness and a heavy heart I say goodbye much too soon and am confident you are alive in God´s memory. (Luke 20:37-38)

My dad was a tall man with a roaring voice that would calm babies, kittens & puppies alike. Even on days when he would work all morning and you could hear phone calls from down the hall, he would still pop his head out from his office and check up on his family for lunch. He taught me how to shoot trap & sporting clays, and was an amazing mentor to me, my siblings, and others.

Patrick's smile was sincere, friendly and sweet. He was a great match for my baby sister! They finished their sentences so much it was hard to keep up with them. His laugh was infectious! His bear hugs will be missed. I believe he sees how much he is loved and wants us to remember him with joy. We love you Pat and we will continue to shower your family with love as well!
