Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2021.
Paul Joseph Alminde, of Philadelphia, on March 20th 2021, at the age of 54, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. Paul was the caring husband of Claire (nee Ondrejka) for 31 years, and the father to Christopher, Claire Ann, and Patrick. Paul was the son of Paul and the late Helen (nee Kearney), and brother to the late Mark, Theresa, and Christopher Alminde. Paul will also be greatly missed by his brother Sean T. Alminde (Christie), his sister Kathleen DiLeonardo (Joseph), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and canine companions Macie and Roxie. Paul grew up in the Wissinoming area of Philadelphia, and attended North Catholic where he graduated in 1984. After high school, Paul joined the Philadelphia Police Department in 1989 and was a Patrolman with the 26th district. In 1997 Paul became a Detective and worked with the East Division until moving to the Homicide Unit in 2017. Paul served the City of Philadelphia honorably for over 30 years, and never took a sick day. Paul was happiest when he was with his family. He greatly enjoyed being around his children, siblings, friends, and extended family. He especially enjoyed the annual family vacation with the "Other" Almindes. Relatives and friends are invited to Paul's Life Celebration visitation on Friday March 26th at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home (10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia PA 19154) from 7PM-9PM and on Saturday March 27th at Maternity BVM Catholic Church (9220 Old Bustleton Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19115) from 9-10AM with a Mass of Christian burial to follow at 10AM; interment at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul's memory to the Committee to Benefit Children, which funds the St. Christopher's Hospital Oncology Department (160 E. Hard to believe it's been a year. Although Paul's absence has left a huge void, his family remains strong. Paul would be happy to see his family move forward and thrive during a difficult time. We will always miss you and love you. Rest easy brother.

Paul was a cop's cop and a loving family man, who was devoted to his wife and children. He was a well-respected member of East Detectives. Paul was a conscientious and detail-oriented detective, who had a flare for telling inside jokes and displaying a dry sense of humor with his colleagues. I was honored work with Paul for three years in East.

Claire, please know that Leigh and I are so sorry for your loss. May God rest Paul's soul. Our deepest condolences to you and your family. Sincerely, John Gallagher

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To my dearest friend & Hero Claire - Wow - where do you start with a this family? It starts with Claire and her amazing husband Paul. Then there were these amazing children. Chris, Claire Ann & Pat. Those kids speak in volumes for the parenting from Clair and Paul. The love they showed each other and their friends. They made you family no mater what your last name was. Paul you are in a great place with great people that you have lost in the past and we here on Earth we will think of you every single day. I will love you and your family until I can no longer breath. Your wife is an amazingly strong woman and your children are the same. RIP my sweet dear friend. I will be speaking with your wife and checking on her all the time. With great love and even more compassion to your loved ones. Our deepest heartfelt condolences to our sister and her three great children during this difficult time. Paul was selfless man who's only purpose in life was to make his family happy. He accomplished that and much more. Paul will always be remembered for his dry sense of humor and quick wit. He will never be forgotten as he's left a tremendous legacy. He is by far our favorite brother in law. Rest In Peace Paul.
