Paul BAKER Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen on Jun. 1, 2013.
BAKER, Paul Brockway
Paul Brockway Baker, adored husband of Holly Larocque, passed away in the early hours of May 12, 2013, after a brief illness. Paul was a true Renaissance man, bringing his enthusiasm, wisdom, and grace to his career as a professional engineer, to his music, his community and volunteer involvements, and to his beloved Big Band, to name but a few. He was the consummate host, showman, friend, mentor, baseball fan, train enthusiast, parent to his cherished dogs, and a true gentleman. His devotion, support, commitment, and unconditional love as a husband are beyond what words can express. Throughout his most recent challenges Paul's courage, fortitude, and unquenchable spirit inspired everyone with whom he came into contact. His radiant smile and loving heart live on in the memories of all who knew him. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held in Paul's honour on June 8 at twelve o'clock noon at The Ottawa Little Theatre, 400 King Edward Ave. Interment to follow at Capital Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Hospice at May Court, The Ottawa Humane Society or the Ottawa Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements in care of Tubman Funeral Homes Westboro Chapel.

Paul and I were roommates at crescent town when we first graduated from university. He was always our social convener. I still think of him often.

Rest in peace Paul.

Dear Holly, my deepest sympathies. Though I did not know Paul, I have just learned of his multi-talents, his wit and his good humour. May your memories sustain you through this very difficult time. I send you strength and hugs and power to carry on. Paul will always be with you.

Oh no! My dear Holly, I have only just heard, and am devastated. We offer you our most sincere and heartfelt condolences. Paul and I had a lot of fun playing squash each week for a number of years for a short period during the 70s-80s. I remember picking him up at the office, rushing to Carleton for a 40-minute game, and racing back afterwards. Having worked with you earlier and thereby meeting Paul was an all-too-brief time, but so memorable. He was a wonderful guy. I am so very sad. It's been a long time, but we're always here for you.
Love, Don and Anneli

Holly, my sincere condolences on the loss of your very special husband Paul. Seldom does one have the opportunity to take something that they love to do such as you and Paul did, singing, acting and dancing " on the road tours". May your many wonderful memories sustain you in the days ahead.
Love,

A wonderful man who lived every minute of his life to the fullest and impacted positively those he met along the way. His journey ended far too soon, but Paul's vibrant and loving spirit , clearly, will carry on in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him. We continue to send thoughts and prayers to Holly and all who loved Paul, for courage, peace and faith, today and always.
Much love,

It was a real pleasure working with Paul at the BPA Ottawa office. His energy and enthusiasm was contagious. While I knew him for only a relatively short time he will be greatly missed. It is a tragic loss and my deepest sympathies to his wife and family.

I had the immense pleasure of working with Paul back and on-stage in two of the Skule Nite revivals in the seventies, several other "extra-curricular " events at U of T, and too many parties to mention. I always smile when I think of him: he will be missed.

Holly, my deepest sympathies.
I did a few Caravan shows with Paul in Toronto a long time ago. He was such a gifted human being... blessed with humor, intelligence, and creative talent. He was sheer joy to be with. I still can't believe that he is gone from this earth. He will be sadly missed, but for those of us who had the pleasure to share time with him, his memory will be carried close to our hearts.

He was a genuinely fun, funny, witty person with the knack of making YOU also feel like a funny, witty person.

Holly, I worked with Paul and it was a pleasure. I recall conversations where I would ask what he was planning for a vacation and he would always advise of a road trip or a tour that he was to do with you. His eyes would light up every time he spoke of you. My deepest sympathies.
