Paul Barren passed away on June 6, 2022 at Doylestown Hospital Hospice. He was 85 years old. Paul was the son of the late Elizabeth and Paul Barren. Paul was from Norristown and attended St. Patrick's High School and Perkiomen Prep. In 1959 Paul graduated from West Chester State, now West Chester University. He received his masters degree from Temple University in 1963 and a second masters from Villanova University in 1973. Paul taught in the Colonial School District and then taught mathematics at Lower Moreland High School for 31 years. He also taught Mathematics at Gwynedd Mercy College for 11 years. Paul was the husband of Patricia Barren and is survived by two children. . Dr. Eric Barren (Karen) of Dalton, Pa. and Verna Revere (Norman) of Lewes, DE. His grandchildren include: Matthew, Gregory, Kimberly, Andrew, Miriam Barren and Norman and Ella Revere. Paul's interest were sports, family celebrations and travel. As a youth he played football, basketball, baseball, boxing, swimming and water polo. For 20 years, he was a water polo coach. He changed the lives of many kids, that became athletes and disciplined individuals. During this time Paul began officiating water polo starting in the early 1970s. and also began officiating water polo in the early '70's. During this time Paul began officiating water polo starting in the early 1970s. His officiating included the United States Water Polo and Intercollegiate and International games. His National Certificate was received in 1973 from USWP, followed by the Federation International Rating (FINA). International tournaments included World Championship, Olympics, University Games, Ted Turner Games and the Pan American Games. Awards received included being inducted into Perkiomen Prep Hall of Fame in 1984, The National Water Polo Hall of Fame (CWPA) at Bucknell University in 2004, and The Pennsylvania Swimming Hall of Fame for Water Polo in 2011 at Bucknell University. During his retirement Paul was an avid golfer and an active member of St. Cyril's Roman Catholic Church, Jamison, Pa. Relatives and friends will be received Friday June 17, 2022 at 10:00 AM until time of his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Cyril's Roman Catholic Church, 1410 Almshouse Rd., Jamison, Pa. 18929. Interment will be held privately . In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either St. Cyril's Church or Christ's Home Benevolent Fund in Paul's memory.

I managed the Bucknell men's water polo team from 1975-1979. I foundly remember Paul and his infinite patience with ne as I learned to record the team's stats. Everyone looked forward to Paul being the ref at our games. He was a wonderful man.
