BERTRAND, Paul March 5th 1946 - February 8th 2010 Surrounded by his family Paul passed away peacefully on February 8th 2010, after a heroic battle (13 years) with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrigs disease). He was predeceased by his father Jacques Bertrand QC and his mother Jean Braceland. He leaves behind his devoted and loving wife Lise Renaud, his children Carl (Lesley Gaul), Genevieve (Josue Nieto and his son Jeremie), Philippe, also his granddaughter Olivia, his brothers and sisters Micheline (Ernie Hobbs), Louis, Corinne (Michael Morrison), Marie (Charles Ethier), Madeleine (Roger Ivars), Claire, his brothers-in-law Claude (Therese Perrier) and Paul (Marie-France Thomas) and many nephews and nieces and friends. Paul practiced law for 25 years as a founding member of the Law Firm Beaudry-Bertrand in Gatineau and was very active in his community. He was a member of the Council of the Hull Bar and President of same (1979-1980), he received the Order of Merit of the Hull Bar in 1998, he was also a member of the General Council of the Quebec Bar. He held many noteworthy positions such as President of the Board of the C.H.R.O. Foundation and was President of the fundraising campaign, Member of the Board of the Rivermead Golf Club and Club President (1988-1989). In 1995, he and his brother Louis received the Personality of the Year Award from the Outaouais Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He also presided over several fundraisers for different charities such as Centraide Outaouais and the ALS Society. In 2006, the University of Ottawa and the Law Firm Beaudry-Bertrand created the Paul Bertrand Scholarship, in recognition of his expertise in Insurance Law. A born athlete, he had a particular passion for golf, fishing and tennis. His guitar playing and his love of music were always important in gathering friends and family. His keen sense of humour, his zest for life, his courage and his determination will continue to be a source of inspiration for all those who were fortunate enough to know him. The family would like to thank the wonderful and dedicated staff at Saint-Vincent Hospital, all the attendants and caregivers who accompanied Paul in his journey and also a special thank you to his loyal friend, Jean-Guy Martel. VISITATIONS: Thursday February 11th, from 2 to 9 p.m., Friday February 12th, from 9 to 10h30. FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Friday, February 12th, at 11 a.m. at St-Joseph Cathedral, 245 St-Joseph Blvd., Gatineau, Qc. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. DONATIONS: In memoriam donations to the Bruyere Continuing Care, Saint-Vincent Hospital, 60 Cambridge St. N. Ottawa, ON. K1R 7A5 or to ALS Society of Ontario, Champlain Region, 402-3100 Steeles Ave. E. Markham, ON. L3R 8T3 would be appreciated. Chèr(es) Bertrand, merci à vous tous et toutes pour nous avoir permis de connaître un être exceptionnel dont la vie en a illuminé bien d'autres tant au niveau personnel, que professionnel. mais son plus grand succès a été de contribuer comme il l'a pu à magnifier l'attachement profond des uns pour les autres dans la famille Bertrand et au-delà.
