Hi:
My name is Don Clerk. i worked with Paul many years ago at a tiny Halifax startup called Micronet. I will always remember Paul as somebody who had a genius for having common sense. He was also a very decent person and a family man who loved his wife dearly.
Christine, I am so sorry for your loss.

Very saddened to receive news of Paul`s passing. I have fond memories of Paul at HERH where he was a great Students Council President and general school leader...very bright, very caring, and a good friend. The world was a better place having Paul in it.

I am saddened to hear of Paul's passing. I worked with Paul on a few projects within Bell Aliant and his insights proved valuable. However what struck me most about Paul was his genuine goodwill towards others. My condolences to the family

To the Burris Family: It is with great sadness to hear the passing of Paul. We (Phil) worked at MT&T together for about 15 years and carpooled for a large number of those years. Paul was a friend, one who did favours for us when we needed them. His helpfulness to us and the community will be remembered fondly. Paul's willingness to help others is an inspiration to others and we will not forget him. May God bless you in this time of sorrow.

Dear Mrs Burris and entire Family,
Deepest sympathies on the loss of Paul. Though I have no personal connection with Paul I feel as though I knew him intimately based upon reading some of the other messages. The adjectives, traits and qualities ascribed to him mirror exactly my knowledge and experiences of those in the family I do know; amazing, dignity, compasionate, principles and so many others in an endless list.
I was also deeply struck by the incredible resemblance I see between Logan and his uncle which in my mind underscores the nature by which we are all bound together.
Heartfelt condolences and wishes for peace and strength.

I first met Paul in the mid-70's when he followed in brother Rob's footsteps for summer employment on the ships of the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. He, (like his brother), was a very likable fellow and a hard worker. I have often recalled how on his first trip out on the C.S.S. Dawson he became horribly seasick. He was an awful shade of green and barely able to stand; this went on for several days. None the less he continued to report for his duties while we more senior crew shook our heads in wonderment at how he kept working. After several days he seemed to get his sea legs and would ruefully smile about his experience.
Just prior to the Dawson leaving Halifax for the next trip, word came down from the Captain that we were one crew member over our complement; consequently someone would be left ashore. The usual course would be that the most junior deckhand got put on the wharf, and that would have been Paul. However the bosun canvassed the crew; the consensus was that Paul should make the trip if he wanted to, given his dedication and positive attitude on his first trip. Paul jumped at the opportunity, we set sail and he spent the first several days deathly ill again. But there was always a glimmer of a smile throughout; he never took to his bunk or asked for special treatment. I lost track of him after that summer...
To Rob and the rest of Paul's family, I extend my condolences. I'm sure you will miss him and his characteristic smile, immediately recognizable to me over the span of nearly 35 years.

We were very surprised and saddened to learn of Paul's passing. We knew Paul for many years and will always remember his warm approach and hearty laugh. Paul was always thoughtful of others and stood up for what he felt was right. We grew closer during our time at the FRCBC and car-pooling (Dave) and so shared many good times. It was a pleasant surprise when Paul picked us up at the airport a number of weeks ago as we reminisced and shared stories of our families. Our deepest sympathies go out to Kristine, John, Theresa, Kathleen, and Brian, as you hold onto each other and your loved ones for strength and understanding. Paul will always be in our hearts and memories.

It is with sadness that these passages are written, but at the same time an opportunity to reflect on a life lived, and of a legacy left. Paul's easy manner and conciliatory demeanor was a refreshing contrast in a world where too often interaction is confrontation. His core values can be aspirations for all. He spoke with conviction about his beliefs, his children, and with an obvious interest in his community and the wider world around him. Paul passed too soon, his life's work not complete. But it is through his most important contribution to this world, his children Theresa, John, Kathleen and Brian, whose own values and chosen path in life reflect all that a father could hope, that he will achieve his aspirations, and through whom he will be remembered.

To the family of Paul. Please accept my sincere condolences on the lost of your beloved husband and dad. I worked with Paul and found him to have a sense of humor and a very direct forthright honest opinion which sometimes did not sit well with the powers to be. He was not a yes man and stood up for what he believed was right. He was always willing to lend you a hand if you needed it and always spoke lovingly and highly of his family.
Again I am so sorry for the void that the lost of this kind gentle man will leave in your lives and may his spirit soar and may he rest in peace.
Kindest regards
Gander

to Paul's family,
Paul was a true gentleman and worked tirelessly for MT&T and especially the Buildings group (I was his supervisor for several years in the 1990's). I remember the computerized buildings maintenance system especially that he helped us develop as well as the digital conversion of our architectual drawings. Paul often spoke fondly of his family.
