PAUL DeMARCO Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 23 to Jan. 24, 2013.
PAUL DOMINIC DeMARCO September 17, 1954 to January 18, 2013 It is with deep sadness we announce the death of our beloved Paul after a short and fierce struggle with lung cancer just two months after it was diagnosed. He died, surrounded by the love of his close friends and family, on January 18, 2013. Paul had made plans to attend the hockey season's first big game between the Leafs and the Habs in Montreal the next night, so it seems safe to say he never stopped living until the day he died. Paul was a brilliant hockey player, a skilled carpenter, a gifted storyteller, a devoted friend and a caring parent. Most of all, he had an enormous heart - he was so generous, kind and thoughtful. He was always ready to help. He also had a great sense of humour and a keen sense of adventure. He could always be counted on to tell a good joke and send the latest hilarious YouTube video. Paul was the fifth of the nine children of Vince and Vicki DeMarco. He grew up in Thornhill and was recognized in adolescence as a gifted hockey player. He was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and uncle. Predeceased by his mother, Victoria Longo, his infant sons Justin and Jessie, and his sister, Rosemary Marziliano. Paul is survived by his son Ryan and Ryan's mother, Paula MCDermott; his daughter Joanna (Dr. Ricardo Funke Hinojoso, daughter Valentina) and Joanna's mother, Marilyn Benadiba, his father, Vincent Victor DeMarco and his siblings, Carolyn, Vince, Kathy, Jo, Mary, Andrea and Larry, and 14 nieces and nephews and their partners. Viewing at Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge Street, Thursday, January 24th 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. January 25th at Blessed Trinity Church, 3220 Bayview Avenue. Interment to follow at Holy Cross at 8361 Yonge Street. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to North York Harvest Food Bank in memory of Paul (640 Lawrence Avenue West, Toronto, Ontario M6A 1B1, [email protected]).

My deepest sympathies and condolences to the DeMarco family. I had the privilege of playing one year of hockey with Paul many years ago when we were both quite young. What a gifted player! I have always admired him for his gift, his larger than life personality and the love that he had for his family. I know we all miss you Paul and I also know that you will remain in our memories forever.

I'm so happy that we reconnected after many years, however brief you filled my life. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. R.I.P. my dear friend Paul. Prayers go to the family & friends who are left to embrace those memories.

To the Demarco Family,
I am very sorry to hear the news of Paul's passing. It is hard when our loved ones passes away at such a young age and that the ones left behind will miss them so much. I hope that you will find comfort in the little things that Paul did that made him so special and that you will once again look at a picture or recall those wonderful times and smile. Wrap your arms around each other to help get through the days ahead. The Morning Bells will be praying for you. Peg Higgins
