My deepest sympathy to the family of Bishop Dudley. Bishop Dudley was Father Dudley at Our Lady of the Lake Churh in Mound Minnesota when I had first meet him. I was 6, and he was the first priest, whom I remember, spending time with "us" kids in the parish. He was always up beat, smiling, and funny. I had talked with Bishop Dudley in August of 2006, he remembered my family and where we had lived in mound--30 years later!! He will be missed.

Will never forget riding to New Ulm with Paul for Bishop Schladweiler's funeral...we prayed the Rosary and talked about our faith all the way. I feel honored to have had the acquaintence of such a saintly soul. Thank you, Paul, for helping us recover a daughter from dark times in a healing service you co-conducted at St. Dominic's. We will also fondly remember him concelebrating the funeral of a favorite aunt, Rosalia Sieberg, at Northfield.

My deepest sympathy to all the family of Bishop Dudley. Bishop Dudley has always been special to our family. Many years ago, when he was a priest at Annunciation Parish, he provided much love and support when my sister, Kathleen, was sick and then died at an early age. He provided love and support to our family again this past February when he returned to Annunciation to concelebrate the Funeral Mass for our Mother. He was a wonderful person and I am grateful for all that he has meant to our family.

Paul
loved everybody, even ex-priests like me. I wrote to him after I left
the priesthood and got a wonderful letter back from him, encouraging me
to keep the faith and to keep going. He was a bishop in Sioux Falls at
the time. It is for him and the like of him that the flowers smile, and
always smiled, in the green soil of Minnesota. And it is the like of
him that not only kept me going but kept the whole Church going. Paul's
life can't be explained without God. And I think we can add that his life can't be explained either, apart from the Catholic faith.

To the extended family of Bishop Paul Dudley: Your sorrow is shared by all who have had the privilege of knowing Bishop Dudley. His extraordinary gift of remembering faces, names and places gave everyone the feeling of being a personal friend. As the founding pastor of St. Edward's Church, he skillfully blended the reforms of Vatican II with the traditions of the Roman Catholic faith, all while establishing a new community of believers. He brought the Cursillo experience to Minnesota and through that experience transformed the spiritual lives of all who participated. We will all miss his example of holiness, vision, nurturing leadership and service to others. May he be received into eternal life with grace and thanksgiving for being the personal representative of Jesus Christ on earth!

I'll never forget the time when Bishop Dudley stopped by our house unexpectedly. We were neighbors in Sioux Falls. I was ill with a fever. After a short visit and some prayer the fever broke. We always knew he was special because he never avoided taking time to know us as real people.

My deepest sympathy to the Dudley family. Bishop Paul will be surely missed by all who knew him. I met him when I was one of his altar boys at St. Patrick's Church in St. Paul MN. He would come in to our classroom, also at St. Patrick's to teach religion, and I always remember him starting each session with a good joke. This was in the early 60s. I met him again later in 1984 at the church's 100 year reunion. He remembered my name and the names of my family after all this time. This impressed me so much, I made it a point thru the rest of my life to remember peoples names. Thank you Bishop Dudley, and may God reward you for all you've done.

To the family of Bishop Dudley,
How blessed he was to be loved and supported by all of you to the very end of his journey here on earth.
My heart goes out to you in the loss of this "Saint" your brother, your uncle, your friend.
I rejoice with you in the knowledge that he is more alive now than he was when he was here, and that he now intercedes with the Blessed Mother and Jesus for each of you and all of us who loved him.
God Bless you as you persevere in prayer with the hope that you will one day be reunited with him in heaven.

Never have I met a man who was closer to GOD. Be it when I was a child at St. Edward and spent time with him and Katheren in the rectory. Our when I recieved my First Holy Communion and in the yet to be finished church. Our when my wife and I had the honor to work side by side with Bishop Dudley as Marriage Encounter Presenters. When everI was in his presence I could feel the presence of the Lord working through him. He had a profound impact on my life and my faith. Bishop Dudley you have completed the ultimate goal of being united with our Father. Thank you for all you gave to me, and I will continue to pray "come Lord Jesus send down your spirit and renew the _ _ _ (fill in the blank with what ever your need is.

I'm going to miss our dear sweet Bishop Dudley. He served as the chaplain for our very first Rachel's Vineyard Retreat in 1999, so he has a special place in my heart. Everyone loved him and wanted to pack him in their suitcase to take him home. He was so full of life and joy that we kept asking him where he got his energy from. He said he got it from us - a true lover of souls, which is the best kind of priest. I can imagine heaven being a bit brighter with him there.
Well done, good and faithful servant. Pray for us!

We are deeply moved and saddened to learn of the passing of our beloved Bishop Dudley. We cherish vivid recollections from grade school, of a young (24 yrs) priest at Annunication in the early 5o's. Seeing him often since then, it is amazing that he always recognized us as friends, remembered our parents, siblings, their names, where we lived, etc.
Please accept our sincere sympathy in your bereavement.

Bishop Dudley preached love. Love of the Lord, life and family. There is no greater message than that. Paul threw fear into me many years ago. He was at our home talking to our children, when he asked them a question about communion. I didn't know the answer and was so afraid that if ours kids didn't know the answer, he was going to ask me to tell them. Thank goodness they were able to answer his question and I was saved.

We are so sorry to hear of Bishop Dudely's passing. What a loss for all of us. Bishop Dudley was a very special person to our family. My mothers favorit priest from Annunciation parish, he married our parents and was a very integral part of our lives the last years of my mothers life. My parents looked forward to him bringing communion and visiting before he would go to Sharing and Caring Hands. We have all been blessed to know such and wonderful angel and I know he will forever watch over us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dudely family. God Bless you.

I won't be home to celebrate my uncles' joyful witness with all of you...To all of us who were touched by Bishop Paul: We thank you Father for the gift of his life in ours. Bishop Paul's choice of bishop's ring and inscription reflected his deep faith, his ring simply said, "Jesus is Lord!"

To
The Dudley Family,
I have known the Bishop since the early 1950's at Annunciation Church, when he was our parish priest.
He was a truly 'gentle' man and a wonderful spiritual soul. I saw him
over the years at Annunciation, and he always knew us by name and even
remembered where we lived.
My sympathies to all of you. But, of course, he is where he always
wanted to be. I remember when we were childeren, he would tell us,
'when I get to be Pope, this is what I will do'.
A most wonderful soul. Thank you for sharing him with us.

“Rejoice in Hope; Be Patient under Trial; and Persevere in Prayer” - this was the motto of beloved Bishop Paul Dudley - and he truly lived it! I will miss him deeply. I will miss his love, support, encouragement and guidance. However, I believe, just as St. Therese of Lisieux, he will “spend his heaven doing good on earth”! Now he will hear the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant”.

Dear People of Minnesota,
We are all better Catholics and others with better lives because of Bishop Dudley. Everyone loved him. It is a great loss not only for the Catholic Church, but for all the "little" people in it. He made us all feel important. We thank God for sending us Bishop Dudley !

Dear John & Dudley family: Praised be Jesus Christ for the life of Paul, so great a man! He has been a total grace and inspiration to thousands. He loved being a priest and served so many of us with joy. Eugene Boyland's This Tremendous Lover epitomizes the life of Father & Bishop Paul Dudley. His phenomenal memory for all of our names made each of us who knew and loved him to feel part of his family circle. We will miss you terribly, but know that now that your suffering on earth is complete, we can pray to you for your intercession. Thank you for your love, your beautiful example of Christlike holiness. Tu es sacerdos in aeternum.
