Paul Egan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 11 to May 12, 2023.
On May 5th, 2023, Paul Bartle Egan passed away leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassion that touched the hearts of all who knew him. Born on June 19th, 1957, in Summerville, NJ, to Phyllis (Fluff) Bartle and Lawrence Edward Egan, Paul's life was a symphony of love and generosity that will echo in the hearts of his loved ones forevermore.

A gifted soul with a heart full of love, Paul was a beacon of hope. He cherished every opportunity to share his talents and be of assistance to others, and his tireless work as "The Bike Guy" and "Puddles the Clown" brought joy and happiness to countless children and families. His advocacy with the Bike & Pedestrian Alliance and his work at Bike Safety Day with Clinton Families Helping Families and the Clinton Police Department made his community a more vibrant place. Paul sang baritone with numerous groups including Con Brio, Capella Cantorum, Shoreline Chorale, along with several choirs. Acting with Clinton Family Theater, Spazzo Players and Ivoryton Playhouse brought him great joy.

Paul's educational journey took him from Watchung Hills High School in NJ to Lafayette College, where he honed his skills as a Professional Mechanical Engineer. He spent 28 years at The Lee Company, designing test stands and equipment with a passion for finding better ways to improve and develop products. He also worked as an Engineer for Times Microwave and Egan Machinery, where his expertise and dedication were a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence.

Paul's spiritual journey was one of deep introspection and contemplation. Born into a free-thinking home, he grew to study the Bible and became a believer. He was a 35-year member of a Monday Night Men's Study Group, where he shared his questions, his beliefs, and himself with his beloved brothers. Paul celebrated 42 years of continuous sobriety on May 9th, and his unwavering faith in the fellowship and healing of AA was a testament to his strength and resilience and his belief in the power of love and service.

A lover of all things outdoors, Paul's hobbies included biking, hiking, kayaking, and coin collecting. He was a conservationist who had a love for fixing things and sharing his vast knowledge of life's details with others. His gentle spirit and infectious smile made him a beloved member of his community, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Liz thanks Smilow Cancer Center, the Hema/Transplant Teams, and the skilled and caring staff who assisted Paul in so many ways. His tribute song North Pavilion Girls was his testament to their excellent care. The Bike Guy Boosters team will ride again in September's Closer to Free Ride.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 10th, 2023, at Andrews Memorial Town Hall, 54 E. Main Street in Clinton at 2:00 pm. The event will feature performances by each of the choral and theater families that Paul participated in, followed by a potluck reception with music by Tug in the Grass. It will be a time to remember the light that Paul brought into the world and the love that he shared with all who knew him.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Liz Bermel Egan, daughter Rachel J. Egan (Matt Weiler), son Loyal B. Egan, brother David Egan (Victoria Casa-Egan), sister Sally Powell (Steve Faler), granddaughters Reese and Quinn Weiler, Aunt Betty Melin, Aunt Doris Egan, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he loved dearly and enjoyed wholeheartedly.

In lieu of flowers, Liz encourages those who Paul has touched to follow his example of giving and donate to the organization through which they knew him best. Funds have been set up in Paul's honor for each organization he participated in. A full list of funds and ways to give will be available in the program at the Celebration of Life and will be posted and updated online at www.lizegan.com. Through each of us, Paul's smile and his legacy will continue to shine. He was a gift to us all. He will remain in our hearts forever.

I first met Paul on a Monday night when he introduced himself as being new to the area but wanting to be known. And how we were blessed to have known Paul. He was a thoughtful, wonderful person with a kind spirit which will always be with me.

We are all totally bereft for words, but definitely not in spirit -- for Paul has left a truly lasting legacy for all whose lives he touched in innumerable ways, and I know he is now singing his heart out with others of our dear beloved ones who've gone on before us to our Heavenly Father's glorious kingdom!!

I have known and admired both Paul and Liz as they both are special. They modeled true love and happy energy, despite some of the health issues they faced. It takes a lot of courage and great faith in God and they both have it. Paul will be deeply missed - his warm affection for so many, his humor, his laugh, his smiles, his music, and his attitude toward life's turns. He leaves a legend with his service to the community. May God keep the warm memories and fun times foremost in your mind, Liz, and in all that were lucky enough to be touched by him.

I am so sad to see this. Paul was wonderful human being and will be remembered with great affection by so many of us at the Ivoryton Playhouse.

I will always remember Paul as "chuckles the clown". Each year he would come to my Sunday School class and delight the children with his presense and blessing them with the animal baloons he would make for them. Liz you are remembered in our prayers and thank you for sharing your husband with so many of all ages.

I had the pleasure of meeting Paul and Liz at Christ chapel church in Madison Connecticut many years ago. Paul as puddles The clown, and Liz was active in our women´s ministry retreat group. I didn´t know either of them well, but I have been following them, and their story for the last few years. It saddens me when someone so heartfelt full of love loses ones life and leaves love ones behind. I cannot imagine the loss Liz feels, i will be praying her through as life moves forward. With Love and Friendship. Marianne Daley

I know I speak for many in the Clinton community when I say Paul will be missed. Every time I saw him he was happy, and always had a smile on his face. I was able to see him regularly at Town Hall durring rehearsals, and many other events. Most recently, the last show that he was involved in with the "Spazo" theater group. My lasting memory of him will be him walking out the front door waving goodbye and smiling and saying goodnight to me at the end of the rehearsal. So happy I got to see him. I'll always remember him that way.
