Late to notice this, but Dr. Hamblin was an advisor for my M.E.Sc. at Western in the late 90's, connected to limnology. He was an excellent mentor, a kind person, and I am saddened to hear of his passing.

For several years, Paul was a noted physicist in one of my groups at CCIW, working on modelling currents along lake(s) shores, water flows in and out of Hamilton Harbour, and related activities.
After our retirement (a few years apart) from the service, we still had regular contact "up-North" as we were also neighbours of sort, though several miles apart, on Georgian Bay.

Together with our spouses, we visited each other and went on "explorations" of various islands in the area enjoying the landscape and had many, often hours-long, discussions about all kinds of novel scientific findings, the natural conditions on the Bay, and their changes over the years --- we never quite finished such conversations -- there was always so much more to discuss! See attached photo, with Sandra H. and Dianne K., of one such events in 2009.

Paul, it was great to have you as a colleague and friend; we will need to meet again for more talk.
Until then, RIP,
Klaus & Dianne Kaiser

Paul and I were colleagues at the Canada Centre for Inland Waters for over 30 years. In addition to our professional lives as physical limnologists (read land-locked oceanographers) we both enjoyed live music (especially jazz), cross country skiing, canoeing, and summers in Georgian Bay. Paul was a great outdoors companion. Whatever Paul undertook he did full-bore. While I'm at it, I'll put in a word for his life-partner Sandra who shared many of Paul's enthusiasms, often with a measure of good-natured eye-rolling. What fun we had; how we miss them both!

I am deeply saddened to hear of Pauil´s passing. He was an accomplished scientist and a wonderful person for whom I had a lot of respect. He loved his family and we exchanged our experiences about our children´s families, especially about our grandchildren. He was very proud of their accomplishments. He enjoyed jazz and he was very knowledgeable about this genre. We attended few jazz concerts in Toronto and I was amazed with his profound knowledge about this genre. I too had a highest regard for him as a person and great admiration for him as a scientist.
My deepest condolences to the whole family. I know he will be greatly missed.

I am deeply moved by the transition of Paul to eternal glory. He was an outstanding scientist and a consummate professional. I had the highest regard for him as a person and was an admirer of his work at CCIW. I know that he left an enduring footstep in his field. May his soul rest in peace.

Paul was an esteemed colleague at NWRI. We had many interesting conversations and scientific exchanges. After we both retired we had many good times at the retirees coffee club. I shall miss him.

We have fond memories of a very special first trip to the cottage where we got to spend quality time with both Paul and Sandra and of course Murray and Tiiu. Our condolences to the family. I know he will be so greatly missed. xo Janice Johnston and Thomas Boyce
