SALEM — Paul H. Hardy, 70, of Salem, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, June 23, 2009 at home. He was the loving husband of Josephine (Scialdoni) Hardy with whom he had shared 48 years of marriage.
Born in Medford, the son of Mary (Tobin) and the late Francis Hardy. He was raised and educated in Somerville, where he spent much of his youth playing basketball at Trump Field. He also spent many years enjoying candlepin bowling.
He was employed by Bicknell and Fuller for several years and had retired from Polaroid. More recently Mr. Hardy worked part time with his daughter at Lena's Sub Shop in Peabody. He also tended bar at the Lafayette Associates in Salem and was a member of the Italian American Club in Peabody.
A loving father and grandfather, he loved his family and enjoyed cooking and clean for them, especially during the holidays. He enjoyed the annual trip to Aruba with his wife and occasional trips to Las Vegas.
In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Hardy is survived by four children, Mary and her husband Edward Schaejbe of Salem, Joyce and her husband Michael Trott of Lynn, Linda and her husband Edmund Fogarty of Middleton and Paul M. and his wife Gail Hardy of Salem; two brothers, Sonny and his wife Yvonne Hardy of Londonderry, N.H. and John and his wife Betty Hardy of Saugus; two sisters, Kay and her husband Harry Tower of Stoneham and Evelyn and her husband Robert Mattola of East Boston; 12 grandchildren, Amanda, Lauren and Wesley Schaejbe, Jessica, Ryan and Gillian Trott, Evan, Amy and Sara Fogarty, Kristi-Lee, Kyle and Kevin Hardy; and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held on Friday at 8:15 a.m. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (corner of North Street) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 9 a.m at St. Anne Church, 292 Jefferson Ave., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Those who wish, may make memorial contributions to the North Shore Cancer Center, 17 Centennial Dr., Peabody, MA 01960.
